I know that if you buy adwords, they appear when someone searches for the terms in google, on the top, bottom and side.

However, do they appear on other peoples websites? so someone out there who has a website that talks about my keywords and has adsense ads on his website, will my ads appear on them? or do they only appear in google search?

They will only appear on OTHER peoples website if you have chosen to place your ads in Google Display Network

mydomainidea is correct. If you didn't choose for the ads to appear on that site, then it wont appear.
    Its pretty simple really.

thanks for the replies, are the prices the same? i know that adsense ads are cheaper for than the ones that appear in google search terms.

someone said that the ppc price is cheaper if it appears on other peoples websites, is this true?

From experience I've found using Googles Display Network will eat up a daily budget far faster than search.

Ive personally had much better results from PPC from just search advertising, and not bothering with the display network. I get much better conversions on paid search than display network.
