If you buy a domain that has expired and been deleted...

The idea is to buy an expired and local domain that has been ranking on page one on G, call the people who are on page two and push them up easily by redirecting the old domain to someone else's site.

For example sake, let's say it's a sandwich shop and I'm doing local SEO. This domain had 50 backlinks. Can I purchase the domain and simply point it to another existing sandwich shop website with a 301 to get increased backlinks?

will I have to build matching content on the new site containing the anchor text's from the old one?

Will the new site get all of the link power even though the links lead to the home page only or do I have to build content on the new shop's site to match the backlinks.

    Does this work?

Expired and deleted domains loose their value very much

It should work. But I'm always hesitant with 301s and taking advantage of G with them. Like we don't really know what the limit is. If we do one, why not two, then when does it get to the point G catches on?

No they don't, stop spreading misinformation.

First of all, your example is making you a salesman. If you really feel like doing all that research to find an expired domain, then doing a sales job of contacting someone in the same local niche (figure out how to contact them or cold call them), and hope and pray they want to buy your service, and go through all the training you'll have to do (no one who isn't an SEO will know what a "301" is, so you're going to have to be a teacher and train them what it means before they see the value of buying it) ... alll THAT to make one sale of a domain with a lousy 50 backlinks ...

You might as well go to your local car dealer and ask them if they have any sales jobs available. What you're doing has nothing to do with SEO, it's 100% being a salesman ... and if you want to be 100% a salesman you'll probably make a ton more money selling high ticket items rather than reselling a $7.50 expired domain. At least when someone comes into a car dealership, they know they want to buy a car.

Seriously if you find an expired domain that has keywords worth anything ranking on the first page you are thinking about it all wrong.

Take the domain, fill it back up with content, make sure the ranking sticks and then sell space on it to those people on the second or third page. Rent it by the month and you have recurring income and that is a much easier sell than trying to do what you are talking about. Everybody already understands the point of a #1 ranking.

Thanks for the responses. Volund...good idea. I'm putting something like this together in another niche...sounds like a better idea than trying to boost someone's site like phpbuilt says.
