Iv always woundered if this would be a viable business idea, simply buying and holding the a domain name and advertising on the domain to sell it at a higher profit, i suppose there
are some domains which may not draw any attention and will just end up being dead investment. Are there people that make money from doing this ???

    Thanks

This business is not new. We call it domaining. Peoples made millions from this business back then. Although it is tough now as most of the terms being already occupied but still there are many hidden gems if you can find about any emerging celebrity or something.

I've been doing this for a while but it's tricky business. I've wasted hundreds of dollars at the beginning simply because the websites I bought didn't sell.

If you want to get in this business, be prepared to spend some money (and time) learning the tricks, do's and don't's.

I tried that and didn't work for me. First of all you need thousands of $ to invest in buying domains that you can sell for a profit. And then there are way too many individuals and companies already who rule the domain market. Anyway, I don't think you can make a living from buying and selling domains, especially if you don't know the basics.

That's a different type of domaining and requires knowledge of SEO etc. I think the OP meant flipping domain names themself - not necessarily developing them or even hosting them.

What you mean is what people on BHW often do. They buy a nice EMD, develop it, put adsense on it and sell it on flippa.

You're a perfect candidate, you mind sharing with us the "do's and don't" since you've been doing it a while? I mean after all that whats BHW is; helping out other BHW'S.

Well I dont think it works well
I contacted a seller for a parked domain and he asked 3300 euros for it :p

I dont think any average marketer will invest such a big amount just for domains.

I could, but I don't think I'd be much of help. As I said in another post; I don't even know if I'm in the green. It's more of a hobby for me.
I've learnt everything from forums such as namepros.com. However I only posses general knowledge, such as what to look for in an expired domain (domain history, age, PG, etc.), avoiding trademarks, etc. Basic stuff.
