I'm far from the brightest tool in the tool box but I do know that you need to do proper due diligence before buying a product or service.

Doing the proper due diligence will not always cover your back but it will 90% of the time.

Some real life experience before I go into online stuff.

I used to own a financial services business and we would find loans for a variety of people and businesses.

On the commercial side there were a lot of guys that would say they could finance you but needed an up front fee to investigate in order to qualify the client for a loan... some were legit and some were not.

In order to see who was legit and who was not we would work google, the phones and email others in the industry as well as check message boards in that industry.

I'm not talking small dollars... we did deals that were between 300K and 30 million USD (nice deal as I made 1% on the loan amount when that closed).

Even today, you want to buy a TV, DVD player, Laptop, Car, toaster, etc... you go online and look at the reviews.

Once you get past the BHW guys with their fake reviews for their adsense/cj/cb/cmazon sites (nothing personal guys, carry on there) you end up with legit reviews and choose a product based on those reviews.

Do the same here... you need backlinks... read the reviews... you need graphics... do the same.

You want to buy YT views, check out the seller and see who he is.

Need a video made to promote your business.. investigate who you are doing business with before buying.

No question there are lots of folks that have no reviews/history that are 100% solid human beings and offer a great service/product... they are here for sure but that can be a gamble.

For those that have no background as to quality services/products but offer something quality and are not a scammer go the extra mile.

Offer your product/service to reputable members to get some reputation (DO NOT PM ME WITH YOUR OFFERS!!!!) at a discounted price when they post "I need XYZ" in the hire a free lancer section.

Build your reputation up... in the offline world that is called a "loss leader". You don't make anything on the deal generally but you do build reputation so you make "reputation".

It is a two way street... buyers have to do due diligence to make sure they are dealing with reputable people and reputable have to show they are reputable.

Minimal guidelines... I know but sometimes minimal guidelines are the way to begin your path to profits.

Great advice BTB taking the time to do your research can save you tons doing it right the first time.

And, to service providers there are a lot of users here with a great ton of reputation willing to chime in and give you a good review if you can provide a quality review copy - a good review from a known name can really boost your sales!

With all the guys trying to make it in IM I am SHOCKED, literally SHOCKED at opportunities people are pissing away!!!!

I offer services on fiverr that I do more Customer service work for!

I have on multiple occasions try to hire a free lancer and almost every-time (except once) got poor results or none, at 1st I even paid a portion up front...wont do that again!

Last week I opened a thread looking for a web guy, I had maybe 15 PM's sent all a mind map and as of today not 1 proposal, I got a proposal from a HS friend in 4 days for a job he is charging almost $4000 for!!

Before that, I had a thread for a writer to redo a movie site for me with unique content, almost $100 job, this is my 2nd go round and it will be almost 2 weeks and not 1 single post has been changed!

I dont complain much, I usually just move on but BTB is right on the money, there are very few that do even half of what they say and even more who do NONE of it!

Do your homework and proceed with caution people!

could that be because BHW has too many kids who want to get rich for no work? Im 43 and got my first job at 12 (delivering newspapers) if I was 12 now on BHW I would be computer/web savvy and believing 'guru' and BS posts about 'easy' riches.

I don't think so; I'm 54 and have very few issues... my post was a general "use your head, folks" kind of post.

I have no idea about your project specifically, but as a general comment, the cost of development does not depend on the buyer 's assertion ;) Those $4000 could be super bloated or a bargain. It all depends on the project complexity - and that 's something a programmer can judge. If you want to know the "right" price, you simply need more quotes from programmers.

Just do everything yourself or find some free tools.

Then when are you going to have time to live your life. Those tools and working it all yourself will only take you so far before you burn out or crash.

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make when doing a big project.

Would you try to build a 100 story building all by yourself?
Would you try to build a 757 jet with some free tools?
No, you would not.... and you should follow the same philosophy when trying to make big money on the net..... outsource.

you can do everything yourself, but you are NOT the best at everything you do.

Build a team of experts, and leverage everyone's talents & expertise to make your project 100 times better than if you had done it yourself.

And I am not even going to get into the time dilemma when doing everything yourself, and how the range of projects you will be able to work on will be limited when you try doing everything yourself.

Great post! It's funny when I first got into internet marketing I happened to land a in-house SEO job for one of the biggest dental website design companies in the U.S. The first thing they showed us was "du diligence" even when it comes to dealing with clients credentials and making sure your signed in to the right google account etc. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WORK! (or another persons work in this case)

We are internet marketers, we know how the game is played out, there is money just waiting for the taking.

When I bought my TV I looked at like 20 different websites, found the best prices, the best specs, reviews, and more. We should not only be doing that for our own products; but for our clients, and our own websites. This is what makes us great at what we do, we know how to use the system for our own advantage. Take use of it!

I get that completely but it wasnt your typical WP type site buildup. Certainly a job of much more value than what I normally shop around.
