Buying a regular license for a wordpress theme. How would they ever know if I was selling?

I notice with a lot of wordpress themes you can purchase; (specifically I am talking about envato but others have similar licenses at different prices)

most websites have a regular license and an extended license. The regular licenses are affordable and fair anywhere from 10-70 dollars usually, and then there is an extended license which can range from $100-$3000 dollars. You buy this license either when you want to buy out the theme (No one else can buy it, which is understandable) or if you want to use it for "selling" something.

Now my question is assume you buy the theme, which usually has 100's if not 1000's of other buyers, how would they ever figure out that one out of however many people were using it for selling? It is not like they can keep track of everyone who buys every theme, figure out what they are using it for, and then report it?

Does anyone have additional info on this, or really would have any way of the seller "catching" the user having the theme and enabling it for 'selling' in some way?

    Just a thought.

I have at times come across different copies of the same theme. Compared the files and there is nothing different. Its strictly on paper. If, and thats a big if they catch you reselling then they might ask for the proof of license.

I doubt they sell 1000s of theme . If it's only 100, it's easy to track the buyers and non buyers.

Twist your thoughts. Tell your theme have been ripped (wordpress hacked). Sell it with another account, another identity.

They will never find out. You pay the purchasing fee for access to updates and the support.

I do not think they would find out. and if they did they might not even care that much. it really depends on how much money they make and if they want to bother.
although, I do believe they can take legal action.

Yes the CAN ( and some do) sell 1000's of the same theme.
when you buy a theme, you pay to use that theme on your own site and get free updates for the next year.
once that year is up and you stop paying ( you can pay the same amount again to get another year of updates) you will not get any more updates.
the idea of updates if that if there is a bug or you have a question, they will help you sort it out.

So the reason there are many versions out there of any one theme is because either they person has stopped buying the theme ( and their 12 months is up) or they have got a version from off the net somewhere , like here.

and generally they wont find out.
There are a very small number of themes now going the same way as some software. when you buy it you go on a database which will tell the theme you are allowed to have that theme.

    but this is very rare

if it is a different version then that is because the author has fixed a problem. the code could be very small so very hard to notice.
But generally there IS a change
