Is there anyway to buy a TLD of another country without setting up a business there? There has be some way around it? Someone earlier recommended using a middle-man, but this sounds very shady.

    Any input?

I've always just bought top level domains directly, or alternatively just set up a subdomain on your current website.

I want to buy a .com.au TLD. Its asking for an Australian business number or trademark number.

you can try your luck and go to the australian company registration office (abr.business.gov.au) find a sole trader without a website, but with a registered company number, use the company number and a fake paypal... see if this works
