I'm considering to buy a domain, just to let it age (since I'm currently busy with another project).
This would be my second affiliate website. I would buy it already before I am earning any income with my first website.

Would it be smart (from an SEO stand point) to buy this domain, and let it age for about half a year before building it?

It's a domain with a country specific TLD and I think has potential if I work on it full time (which I can't for the moment)

It would be smart to buy the domain, build it and then let it age. It's the age of the content that matters, not the age of the domain. That has, in my experience, no impact on SEO whatsoever. The age of the content however has a tremendous impact. So get it, build the content and let it rest. Having a domain gather dust without any content makes no sense.

If you're able to put a minimal site up with some content, and you don't get blasted with dirty links by a competitor during this first year, then yes you get a headstart once you start developing it in the future.

EDIT: Said almost the same thing as @Hawkster almost at them same time ;)

Thanks for the advice. If I understand, nothing bad happens if I buy it and do nothing with it?
I think I've read somewhere that domain age can have an effect on rankings, however not a really significant one.

But indeed, maybe it's smarter to buy a website, put 2-3 articles or blog posts on it, and after a year use it for affiliate income :)

"Can have" means - "I do not know, but people say that, so I guess it may have"

    No it doesn't.

And no, nothing bad will happen if you just let it collect the dust without being hosted.

I do the same thing. I have a blog that I aged for two years. Next year it will be 3 years old. I'll start working on it again then.
