    Hi,

I sold a low-value item online and a German buyer purchased it using Paypal echeck. I only recently discovered this exists and that it is popular among certain countries like Germany where bank transfer is a popular payment method.

Basically a few days later I realized the buyer cancelled the echeck and thus my Paypal was not credited. I am not going to try and reclaim this money as it is not worth the hassle for an 8 euro transaction. Is there any way to disable payments of this type? Or are buyers OK with waiting for the echeck to clear before dispatch?

Next time you can still accept payments like that but you need to wait for the e-check to clear before sending the item.

Well, if a buyer pays via echeck, the chances are that he/she already knows about the clearing period, so they won't be shocked by the delayed delivery. But you can always let them know, that you only ship the item after the echeck cleared and when that will happen exactly, you can find the exact date, if you check the transaction in your PayPal.

    You can try this: http://www.ebay.com/gds/How-To-Block-Most-PayPal-eCheck-Payments-/10000000003310704/g.html
Although the article is on eBay and seems to be a solution to turn off echeck payments, i read somewhere that it still won't get turned off fully.

Just wait for echecks to clear before providing the item you sell. Most buyers will understand, since they should know echeck is a delayed payment method. You could also include in the sales copy, that when someone pays with echeck, you won't provide the item until after the check clears.

Next time just deliver when the e-check is cleared, buyer will wait. There will be no problem if you inform to buyer that you deliver upon payment is cleared.
