I have a mAc book pro and I absolutely love it!... It is so awesome to use it ... I would suggest you go for Mac book pro , install parallels and install windows as a parallel OS. That should do the trick ...

I own two Macbook Pros and even though I love them, the ASUS is probably better for IM and gaming.

If you want the best computer go for the Mac though.

The Asus has a intel cpu, which means it can also run MAC OS. The Asus is the better buy,but with MAC OS as the other OS on it.

I prefer the windows operating system just for the ease of use and it being supported by every program, however people are making more and more programs that are compatible with macs. Also macs cannot/very very rarely get viruses and start the slow down which I think is a major bonus, so if this is a long term computer, I personally would go for the mac even though I have never really been a fan of the operating system but its mainly because I am not used to it.

Anyway, enjoy your new purchase whichever one you buy :)

I have similar laptop, hp envy 17, similar to asus, but I would go for asus. I think mac has heating problems if I am not mistaken. Just check amazon reviews, you will see which one is better, but asus is a big beast, that is why I bought hp envy

I currently have the same ASUS laptop you want to buy and since I am into computer stuff... ASUS is awesome for nearly everything. If you want something good for IM AND for playing Games I would really advise you to go for the Asus laptop... Yeah make is cool and all shiny shiny but it sucks for serious working and specially for playing games....

If I ever will need a new laptop.... Asus will be my choice... You get what you pay for... You donĀ“t see that so much anymore :)

But your choice ofcourse. If you want to be a cool buisness youngstar or are into designstuff... Buy a macbook... If not. Go with the ASUS.

Why not just get a desktop if you plan on gaming on something? That thing(ASUS) is pretty big just like it is. You can build a desktop that is suitable for gaming and buy a lesser laptop still under the $2k mark and have graphics upgrade options rather than replacing the whole thing later on, along with maybe multiple 21"-23" monitors(or just 1). Should also listed the games you plan on playing as well.

The ASUS imo + corded mouse.

If you play games or already use Windows apps for IM then the ASUS is the obvious choice. Way higher specs for a lower price, it's a no-brainer.

If you are already a Mac user and / or a Unix developer then the Mac would be the way to go. However if you are a typical IMer who only uses other people's apps then a Windows-based machine would be the way to go.

But even then if someone is a MAC user, they can just buy the asus and install MAC OS on it.

Asus is of course better. Mac is over rated and too expensive for what you'll get.

Not really if you want to rely on it for your primary OS that you make money from... Installing OS X on non-Apple hardware is tolerated by Apple at the moment, but they could easily release an update that would kill your ability to update your installation. Also OS X / Apple hardware uses a new alternative version of BIOS called EFI, rather than regular BIOS like you find on regular PC hardware, that requires some hacking to work around.

Hackintosh might be fine for hobbyist use but if you're in the business of making money using OS X (like I am) then it's much more cost effective to just pay the extra few hundred $$$ for Apple hardware that works seamlessly straight out of the box and doesn't require any mucking around. The Apple hardware is pricey (because really you're paying for the right to use OS X legally and with no hassles), but it's also really good hardware.

Just don't buy an HP Pavilion DV5-1235dx. Mine is a piece of crap... I had to send it back to HP 3 times to fix my screen that flickers my first year of having it (while under manufacturer warranty) and now about 2 1/2 years later the screen is starting to flicker again and not under warranty anymore... what a piece of crap.. I bought my wife an ASUS and she hasn't had any problems with it...

There are many awesome apps for mac + IM. If you want Xrumer or Scrapebox you shouldn't be using it on a laptop anyway.
