    1. google: info:domain.com, if the result show other site urls --->redirect --->fake
    2. check google link, google index: the more the better
    3. check majestic for External Backlinks, Referring Domains, Backlinks Educational, Backlinks Governmental, Domains Educational, Domains Governmental, Referring IP Addresses, Class Csubnets ------>the more the better
    4. check domain authority: ------>the higher the better

dont buy if google index =0, domain authority <10/100, External Backlinks and Referring Domains are tiny numbers. The PR would be back to N/A sooner or later.
    good luck

My old method in checking websites is permanently or temporary(i hope) unavailable.

So heres an alternative option. Check the backlinks of the domain your about to buy, put all the links in scrapebox, press link checker and check if the backlinks are still linking to the site. save all the confirmed links, then run a pr check on all of the confirmed links.

If it has a lot of pr 4 + sites then it will most likely retain the pr in next pr update or the pr of the site is not fake. :)

where i can check domain authority?

If the domain has expired is not normal that google index count as 0?

I have seen many domains with pr4 (not fake) that have very few backlinks as you can?

    thanks for reply

If the site is no longer indexed there is no guarantee when it comes to its PR. You have to look at the existing backlinks, make a judgement call and take a risk in deciding whether to buy it or not. That is the only way.

Check the backlinks, if the numbers make sense then fine; however if it has few or none then you will drop next update.

    1 - http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/
2 - I mean EXPIRING not expired. Expired domains PR will return to N/A
3- Few but strong. If it is linked from only 1 strong PR5, it can be PR4

one more thing needed to be done before buying expiring domains,
    - find all links to the domain ( yahoo explorer used to be a good one but not any more, majestic seo maybe the alternative, with fee).
    - Then check PR of each link ( scrapebox must be the chosen)
    - Notice if there is enough high PR links to the domains. if not, though it's not fake, it's risky to buy.

Be careful and research the site well. You got some great tips here on what to look for and it's very important to do your homework or you will waste your money.

One thing you should make sure to do if you do buy it is to get the cached pages and put them back on the site: http://wayback.archive.org

Any pages that you don't add back to the site make sure to do a 301 redirect to the homepage in your htaccess file. If you change the permalink structure from the original make sure to 301 the old links to the new links.

This will help prevent PR loss to 404 pages that no longer exist.
