This is just a question/opinion. I only want to ask you if you think if it's better for you to get a business/marketing degree in college or a computer engineering/computer science degree to work full time as internet marketer for companies or degree isn't real necessary for you?

I'm currently a computer engineering student, I like Java, logo and website Design etc but I've started IM this year and I see now I really like IM and Marketing in general.. So which is better for you ?

I tought computer engineering could be better, because when I'll leave college I'll know programming languages and I can still learn marketing myself, but it's more difficult computer engineering than busines...

I agree with bartosimpsonio. Actually I have a bachelor degree in computer but trust me, the subjects that course covered not at all related to IM. But still you will only learn stuffs like programming logic, understanding how software systems work, how to develop better quality software reducing time and cost, mathematical terms etc. better in a complete computer degree course. But during my time most computer degrees didn't cover business terms. Actually for IM you don't need a lot of business management knowledge but must have good understanding of the business terms.

Right now there are some good degrees available even in e-commerce or internet marketing/online business. Also you will find a course in some unis in the UK, Business Information Systems or BIS, which covers both computer and business subjects. Actually it depends on where you are going to get the degree.

Also, must remember, no matter what, if you have the time and money, go for a recognized degree. Education is the most valuable thing you will ever achieve in life. Best of luck :)

Do something you enjoy. Don't confuse yourself with choices, start working on something you want to do and build your way up otherwise you'll be scattered all over the place and have nothing.

You don't need any degree to work in IM.

That's what I actually love about it. Everyone can be a successful IM'er no matter where he comes from, what his past looks like or how he looks.

Learning CS doesn't really help. You need enough abstraction to be looking at the bigger picture, no need to be thinking about what the computer is doing since it's just your tool for IM

Why not get a business degree with a double major? Or a major and a minor.

Is a degree required for IM? Obviously not, there's plenty of IMers w/o degrees.

But will it hurt you in the future? Definitely not. Your educational credentials is something that can never be taken away from you, no matter where you go in the world.

Your school doesn't offer marketing/advertising courses? Companies have big budgets for marketing/advertising. Who knows, maybe one day you'll decide to go corporate while you run your own business on the side.

Either way, best of luck to ya.

Go to a job site and check the internet marketing jobs then look at what resume they want and you got yourself an answer.

You dont need much education to do internet markeing..mostly savvy.

To answer your question if I had to choose one degree that would make me steady money and mean my skills are permanently in demand I would go with computer science and coding. Marketing/business degrees are nowhere near as valuable.

I would go with a business degree and even do MBA. You can have basic knowledge of programming by yourself using google. And you can always hire programmers, business man are the ones that hires, the rest of the world just work for a business man.

    hmmm
who said, you must need to have a commerce certificate like BBA,MBA,BCOM?

must need to have good brain, which can absorb programming languages like: C,C++,C#,Python & many, cant type :p
If you need a stable money , then stick with CS
so you can do coding jobs in freelancing sites
also you can try other way to get side income.
Check Making money/Journey sections of BHW,lot of people trying or making good amount of money
come on, you dont need to have Management degree(MBA,etc) to try them!!
But the main thing is, none of those method can stay longer
But working as a Coder in Freelancing sites , is long term, you would receive more jobs, as per your previous Project Completion.
Or in near future, you want to work for a Company

So do you think it's better computer software programming than computer engineering? engineering is more difficult but gives more things to learn. Btw having tech skills is always good, I may do a business/marketing master after a degree if this could help me.. I think it's best choice (computer skills/programming + marketing skills / know well how economics work.

I took a commerce degree (business) with a marketing major. A combination of self teaching and electives have taught me how to program quite proficiently in about 5 languages.

There is no right degree to pick because it depends what you want to do with your life. Business is pretty generic and can be applied to pretty much any other industry which is why I chose it.

you need to have CS or IT in Btech or Bsc or BCA
after that , you may think, how to make software, web etc for long term
A BHW member well said here that working field and educational field are different,so after completing your course, you need to apply them yourself.
and about MBA after BTech or BBA-MBA,if those are that much worthy, then why people r doing work for other farm or companies for very little wages? like $70 to $250 per month?
why dont they just open a new business on a new idea or knowledge which he/she gained during management course?

so my point is ,a good business idea can be made by a non management student too
but a management student could not do IT related stuffs by himself for long term

If you think that you can get full idea on business,if you would do MBA after BTech, then good luck with your thought
But remember A Real Scientist, dont need Master or PHD degree,to do a research
