I've been reading up on a lot of SEO books and thread here on BHW but what I don't understand is "Building web 2.0s linking to your money site"

So far, I came across a few notes about ranking, Google ranks your page not your site. So when people say "...linking to your money site". Do you link to your specific page or your home page?

When you build a web 2.0, do you link it to your site as a whole (www.abc.com) or to a specific page to rank for? (www.abc.com/make-money-now)

it depends on which page you are trying to rank...

if you want to rank your home page link to the root directory, if you want to rank a innerpage (on a long tail KW for example) then link to the inner page url.

It is best to build links to both your main page and your inner pages

If I had several keywords I wanted to target, I would normally have an article on a page and optimise that page with title, meta tags and seo the page with content relating to the keyword, I would then build links to this page with 70% anchor text for the keyword and 30% other anchor text

Try building a mixture of links not just web2.0's then backlink these links with longtailed keywords related to your niche

If you are going to build web2.0s try blasting them to make the web2.0 have more authority and index quicker

Just think about what google would think is natural!!

It is beneficial to link to both your homepage, as well as deep link pages. It is possible to rank your homepage for one keyword and other pages of your site for other keywords. Web2.0s are a great way to do it, for a list of over 100 free web2.0s check out the link in my signature.

Thanks for the replies! Cause my situation right now is all the seo I'm doing now is directly linking to my money site not inner pages and when I check for the keyword I'm targeting, my inner page is ranking higher than my homepage and I haven't done any seo linking to that inner page.

Anyone can clarify this for me? My website is built around 1 keyword at the moment with 5 posts targeting this single keyword.

It's a very common thing to have happen. You are overoptimizing your homepage with too many links (guessing you're using the same anchor text on all your links).

If you had done it the other way around (overlinked to your inner page and not your homepage) then your homepage would be outranking your inner page.

It is a penalty. Your best bet would be to start linking more to inner pages, and greatly varying your anchor text. I never do anchor texts more than 50% of the exact keyword I'm trying to rank for, usually I do around 25% exact, then around 50% with keywords mixed in (but not exact match), and around 25% of "click here", or "this website" and combinations like that.

If I were you, if you were always using exact keywords ... I wouldn't link to your homepage again for a very long time using the exact match. Try linking to homepage 20% of time with different phrases, and 80% of time to inner pages with varying anchor texts.

Even it is very common (this has happened for every site of mine - unless i build no links to homepage) - even people from SEOmoz didn't knew answer to this question.

So very few people know this.

I have read your advice in another thread, where you said to de-optimase backlinks as well as keyword density. it looks like multiplication of keyword density and percentage of broad match of keyword in anchor you are targeting is a thing that matter.I have a homepage targeted 4 keyword. All 4 keywords were mentioned around 4 times in 700 words long text. Now i have each keyword mentiones just once, so i got improvement. 2 keyword out of 4 got their rankings back.

It is probably important to say what is my backlinks profile. Around 400 links from web directories, anchor tetx varied - but i do not have ordinary text such as "click here", "read more","learn more" "see website" or "domainname LCC". So it seems you cannot be ranked well without using this kind of anchors.

If you use wordpress, it alse seems that category/tag pages have less weight (even if they have original text) than individual posts. This may even be true for homepage. But overoptimisation is more of a problem.

Now everyone on BHW should know it too hehe.

Glad you saw improvements. It's an automatically applied penalty and the penalty is automatically removed once you fix the issue, sometimes quicker than 24 hours.

If anyone is suffering from this penalty, you're probably spending too much time backlinking on one website. You should either expand the quality of content on that website, or move on to another website and spread your linking efforts around a bit.

If you really want to blast a site with links, go for a small amount of buffer web2.0 sites and then blast them with thousands of links.

The posts that was ranking above my mainsite without doing any backlinks to it is now deindexed. Maybe I'm keyword stuffing too much? My keyword density for that post is 2.31%

and my main website url is ranking at #16, I'm not sure how long it will stay there because all the anchor text I use when doing backlinks to my homepage is just 1 keyword. No diversification. I think its gonna drop it rankings soon. what do you think?

Tell you a little secret I do nowadays ... I d0follow/noindex my tags and category pages. Then I blast them with AMR ... while I typically do higher quality links to the actual post or root domain. It really works great.

Its like the page you target gets penalized, but the page it links to does great (not penalized at all). Its like reversing what Google usually does ... it penalizes the page you link to and props up the next best page you don't link to. So you anticipate that and have Google penalize your tags page which you don't want to rank anyways and the pages it links to benefit.

Is that what happens when you backlink your target page but it doesn't show up in serp at all but instead a category page or another keyword page shows up instead? Is that the google penalty? Cuz almost all my sites is experiencing this right now. I have category pages that move up in the serp on page 1 as I link to my actual target page. One keyword is on position 7 now (category page) and the actualy target page I'm linking has never shown itself in serp.

My backlink anchor text is 50% exact, 50% similar kws, keyword density is about 1.5% so I'm not sure why my page is penalized. Can internal links cause this same penalty? I have about 11 (in-content) internal links with exact keyword pointing to it.

Can I jump in on this thread here for a moment....I have a number of sites I'm using the same strategy on, which until recently all were performing well in the SERPs.

Suddenly one of them dropped out of google like a bad shit in quick sand.

I'm using about 10 WEB2.0 properties, wordpress, blogger, squidoo etc all linking to my different sites. I tend to hit the main keyword once a week in a post, and then variations on the keyword in those blogs. To be honest it's quite random. So I can't tell you the exact % ratio of variation. Though it is ALWAYS these same 10 properties.

I then have been blasting the crap out of the properties with scrapebox and SE Nuke.

I've done virtually NO other linking to the main sites other than these properties.

NOW, I have two sites that have been performing GREAT. And one site that was performing equally great, yet suddently has been gone from google for about two months. No stratgey change. All the sites are 3 - 4 years old.

I noticed recently though I had about 3 Wordpress blogs banned suddenly. That's not affected the other sites though, and I have no idea why they were banned suddenly.

Could it be the scrapebox attacks on those blogs or something?

If you have on your site what you consider a perfectly optimized page, and you're backlinking to it, and that page disappears and can no longer be found ... meanwhile another page on your site that is less optimized and hasn't been receiving backlinks crops up to take its place ... yes your original page is penalized.

Your original page is probably penalized for a combination of being too perfect, meaning your keyword density is too high and your incoming backlinks have anchor text that are too optimized (exact). In addition, the quality of those backlinks are probably very low.

To fix the pages, make sure to reduce the keyword density, if you're at 3% make it 1%. Add more links to the page and have your exact anchor text percentage significantly drop (nowadays I only do 25% exact).

Also, in the future you might want to consider less links to your pages from web2.0s ... and then make those web2.0 links very strong by backlinking to them. This makes their quality higher ... high quality links will help remove your penalties on your page as well.

i have seen this happen a bunch. i think what has happend is all your web2.0 have the same keyword. try some variances if your keyword is loose weight try loose weight now, loose weight fast, how to loose weight etc etc "loose weight" is still there but this looks more natural than just blasting 5k links with loose weight.... just a thought

wow.. you just described 30 of my sites and my backlinking portfolio. I have a lot of my links coming from low quality web 2.0 backlinks. I have already reduced keyword density from 3% to 1% and I am trying to find ways to reduce my anchor text density without using anymore web 2.0 properties. I'm considering a wiki blast or something directly to my pages (Would you recommend this as a way to dilute my incoming anchor text portfolio? its current at about 60% exact).

As for the low quality web 2.0, luckily I keep the urls of every backlink ever created to my sites, so I'm going to be blasting them all to boost their linking power. Does anchor text to my web 2.0's matter or can I use general anchor texts on them?

And now that you mention this. One of my sites had a static homepage and a category was ranking instead of the homepage. About a month back I changed the front page to show the latest post excerps dropping keyword density to about 0.2% automatically because I was just sick of trying to rank it (keyword only appears in title, sidebar and footer) and the page is ranking on 1st page now. (finance niche)
