I'm going to build a money site and I don't want to start from a fresh new domain. So I get an expired domain which has good metrics to give me a boost. This domain is stronger than almost my competitors (based on backlink profile) so I hope I can beat them.

But this is my first time building a money site on an expired domain so I have a little confused.

To be honest, I want to say that my going-to-do website's niche is completely different from the expired domain's site. I'm going to make a store which sell apparel, tshirts......and let's say the expired domain's site is about food. I've already install Wordpress on the domain and do some posts.

Ok so these are my questions:

    1. When I go to Google and type in this query site:myexpiredomain.com I found that there are thousands of pages are still indexed (include pages, posts, tags, categories....). Because I've installed new site so when I click to those results, my website will says that: "
Sorry, but the page you were trying to view does not exist."
So what should I do with them? I think of 3 ways I could do with those indexed pages:

    - Leave them as they are, do nothing
    - De-index them by using the webmaster removal tool
    - Revive some (or all) old contents/pages and then redirect (301) old pages to new pages. It's too many results so I can't do them all.

    2. When I check the domain's backlink with Ahrefs, I found many backlinks which is pointed to an image file (which url is myexpireddomain.com/wp-uploads/2016/05/xxxxx.jpg). But when I check with wayback machine there is no result. So I can't revive that image. What should I do in this case? Because if the backlink points to an article and I can find the content of that article on Wayback machine I will make a new post and paste the old content to that post and then redirect from old to new.

    3. Last one is because of my main purpose for this website is about selling apparel/tshirt, so can I make a category named "Blog" then put all old contents there (for redirect thing) then start posting apparel/tshirt product normally like a normal shop?

Please give me some suggestions. Thank you all.

The first thing I would do is install a 404 plugin,
This will allow you to put in the urls from your most popular keywords, and ahrefs backlinks,
and setup forwaring to new posts or pages, or even just the homepage.

For the file, you could just recreate that directory, and upload a file manually.

I have never done this before but I will give my suggestion based on things I learned here. You said the expired site was all about food so the site might have backlinks from food blogs in which your pointing it to your apparel site. Google will count them but since its no niche relevant you might not get enough consideration.

Also if your new to this make sure the expired domain has no spam.

redirect pages with links to homepage. remove old pages via webmaster. you dont want to show a shit load of 404's.
leave the rest and start building

Yes the expired domain has no spam at all. I know it's not relevant but it's hard to find relevant and strong backlink profile. So might it works if an apparel store get links from food blogs?

Thanks for your reply. I couldn't find the old images so I can't get them and re-upload.

Install 404 plugin and if you think there is some good pages with links and authority then revive them and interlink!

If I can't revive them (because they are not existed anymore and couldn't be found on wayback machine) so what should I do? Leave them or try to redirect to a relevant image/content?

Personally, I would get another domain thats niche related. Google is heading more and more towards relevancy and getting good at it. If you want to use the domain I would get into a food related niche, maybe amazon affiliating cooking products such as pans.

Don't spend a year building a castle for google update to knock it down to the ground.

I am not sure if this would help, but i found myself looking for images that were taken down on a website.
One trick that i did is that i tried searching using site:domain on google images, luckily the images were still indexed, i took them (low resolution) and used google's search by image feature, and voila!
