Building links to domains pointers

This is a pretty noobish question, but I can't find a satisfastory answer.

If I buy some domains to pointing to Web 2.0 properties (IE Weebly properties, blogspot blogs) and begin building links to these domains, will it be as effective as building links to hosted domains? (I'm not sure of the correct terminology)

if you redirect them with a 301 all the link juice will pass to the pages where you are pointing to, but those domains will never show in search results, only the pages where they point to, because with a 301 search engines know it moved to the new page and will update the link, even browser bookmarks will get updated if they find a 301 redirect.

I don't think he is using 301, I think he is using domain alias, but I don't know if that is the technical name
