Building links to a 301'd site?

Hey there, I just redirected an old site of mine to my new site. Now I wonder, can I use the old and redirected one as a web2.0 and still build links to it? It might look unnatural if backlinks are growing for a domain that holds a 301 redirect or am I wrong?

I was thinking of doing this for YouTube videos and when the video gets removed reupload and change redirection to the new one.. i never tried tho .. :d

That is interesting as well, but how do you get to redirect yt links?

You waited two weeks and couldn't find an answer. I did a 30 minute G search and have the answer.
Actually I just put in my keywords and spent 25 minutes reading 10 pages I found. Bit stoned, could have done it in 5.

The deceased are not dead until they are forgotten. This Legend deserves eternal live so I will let him answer:

I kid you not. ;)

Tree's spring to mind though, and growth. So depressing to live in a void. :(

if 301 is a problem do 302, this means temporary redirect, so every time the bots will be visiting your link and not the actual one.
but i am sure if you do this for google it will recognize the trick, if it is not already in their code

301 tells Google that your page has permanently moved.

Why would people still be building to your old domain when there all the content is on your new one? The answer is that they wouldn't be.

Therefore, keep it natural, link to your new site once you've 301'd it.

Hey you! Finally you're in one of my threads with your wise-ass answers (often... not always - I have to give you that one). It's not nice of you to assume I didn't search or do anything and just sit here waiting 2 weeks for someone to spoon-feed me the information I'm looking for. My threads are strictly opened when I can't find anything or if things remain unclear to me.

Also, instead of bragging how you found an answer, you might share it since that what's this place is all about, right?!

By the way, I don't know how stoned you are, but that post didn't make much sense to me at all. Anyways, enjoy your high and thanks for that wonderful song buddy :)

I've found much info on this one, but it seems like a 301 is better in many sights. Thanks for the info though, it's appreciated!

^^answers should be ignored.

Again, please for once provide some explanations on your posts. 9 out of 10 times when I see a post of you it's just some message saying you know this, and that... But rarely do you explain anything at all. Please come here with useful information, or stay out buddy - this ain't helping me and others.

This is exactly what I had in mind myself, thanks for confirming it.

Allright guys, for those who want to know:

It is a fact that your 301'd site will become some sort of a backlink, and it'll pass on the linkjuice generated on that link to your new link. Building links to it is another story and as far as I know opinions on this differ a lot.

I'm personally sticking with not building links (or let's say I've decreased building links slowly to a point of just stopping it completely) anymore since it might look un natural in the eyes of search engines.

If anyone has any information to add it's always appreciated!

We know that 301 redirects pass less juice than a direct link.
We know that penalties can be passed through 301 redirects.

If your linking method is sound then you want to get the most out of it as possible by pointing them at your new URL. You will get diminished returns pointing it at the 301 site and you will not be negating all risk of getting penalised.

OP, sorry if you find my answers offensive. I help lots of people actually but sometimes it just gets too much. It is not that I feel I'm better than someone else but I get annoyed by people being lazy, rather waiting two weeks than search.
I really didn't have to look that hard.

Also, I always claim to know things and never produce?
http://www.seomoz.org/q/301-redirect-what-happens-to-backlinks
How is your comprehensive reading?

How did I find that? Are there other links to back that up? Sure there are:
https://www.google.nl/search?q=301+...:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb&gbv=1

Please don't get mad at me when it is you that is lazy. You may not like me and you don't have to but fact is I can back up anything I say. If there are doubts, normally a polite request would suffice.

I was trying to help you, won't happen again. No worries. :)

Bro, don't feel offended. I wasn't rejecting any of your advices - it's just annoying that you only post hints and after doing that never release any useful info.

Anyways, I've tried the search function as a first resort of course, but didn't came up with the threads you've just shown somehow. Thanks for those, they're very useful.

What I do find 'funny' is that you, once more, react with this:

"I was trying to help you, won't happen again. No worries."

Every single time when someone points out to you that you should share instead of making people curious with your stuff, you react like this. It's all good to me, whether you will help me or not - stop getting offended after people tell you to either share or get lost.

Cheers!

Like I said before: A simple request is usually enough for me to show more information. Unless answered by others I normally reply.

I said I wouldn't help you but I will make you a trade. Something available for free and easily answered by other members.
If you can show me 3 posts where I withhold information after being asked for it I will tell you why your search results are probably messed up. I will back that information up with a link.
Seeing that a quick check on my profile produced 5+ posts where I tried to share that shouldn't be hard. Most of my posts are so if I do as you claim: "only post hints and after doing that never release any useful info" it should be a 2 minute search. Don't need G for that, no worries.

And yes, I do use that quote more often. It usually ends the convo for me as fighting colors on a screen seems somewhat wasteful. I still do at times tho. We all have sins.
I like helping people, it makes me feel good. Selfish, I know. If someone doesn't respond in a way that makes me feel good after helping him, I don't help again. Also quite selfish. Feel free to hold it against me. :)

And yet you claim I don't back up my claims, hinting but not delivering. lolz.

Can ya see the colors?

End of story.

I've been trying to find those posts I was talking about, but seriously - Who has the time to search between your 387 posts bro.

Anyways, you've said it yourself already:

"And yes, I do use that quote more often. It usually ends the convo for me as fighting colors on a screen seems somewhat wasteful. I still do at times tho."

It's the move of a less nice word for girl, so next time toughen up and provide the info you're bragging about. I'm convinced this sin of yours will occur more times here so we'll catch up sooner or later.

BTW: That a 301 is some kind of backlink, is no secret. And it shouldn't become one either because people like you 'making' it one, by PM'ing info instead of just sharing it with all of your fellow members here, we are all one.

So, ease up and light that Dutchie for me buddy, enjoy and relax - no bad feelings bro...

You can try all you want, you won't find them. I took a quick look at yours and found

First you ask, then you try....

Speaking of being nice, it is not nice to completely change your reply after someone has read it. In the previous version you demanded I would stay away in a less nice way. I would have complied to that too. I am not here to hound you.

When, if and how I share information is not for you to decide.

If you notice, my initial reply was correct. Your thread then received two more replies that took it in a faulty direction. I did send you a PM to correct that. I guess you read it after you posted your reply. Bragging? Withholding info? Don't think so...

Your response to the reply in your thread was not to ask me what I meant by my initial reply but start ranting. In your rants you said:
"Finally you're in one of my threads with your wise-ass answers (often... not always - I have to give you that one)."

How inviting is that to share further info with you? I did not read that when I sent you a PM, trust me when I say I wouldn't have sent it.

"... please for once provide some explanations on your posts. 9 out of 10 times when I see a post of you it's just some message saying you know this, and that... A hefty claim but not backed up anywhere. Back up your statements. If you had checked my posts you would have seen most of them ARE helping and sharing information. I explain what I meant when asked, you couldn't find a single post to deny that let alone three of them. Yet it happens all the time you claim, nine out of ten posts even... with 400+ posts (some sections don't up post count remember?) and 90% doing as you claim, how hard can it be to find one in at least 348 quality posts ? (90% of my counted posts.)
If you make a claim: Back it up when asked. In this case you should produce those posts you claim exist. If not: You are full of shit, claiming things that are obviously not true.
Bragging and not producing info you claim I do, I say you need a mirror.

"Also, instead of bragging how you found an answer, you might share it since that what's this place is all about, right?!"

It is about sharing, not spoonfeeding. You didn't get your e-spoon presented in the way you demanded and flipped. Hows that for attitude? You couldn't ask, you could just rant. Putting demands on how, when and if people should help you. When, if and how I share information is not for you to decide.
You are the one that needed help, not me. Look at how you try and get that help. Look at how you doubt my input but present it as fact without links to support my claims you present as fact, while again, I just make claims. Yet I talk shit eh? If I talk shit, you shouldn't present my claims as fact. lmao!
You have been waiting for 2 weeks to get this answer and still got nowhere, I did a simple search while stoned and found it yet you think it is unfair of me to point this out. Now you claim you did search and it is mandatory I share in a way approved by you.
When, if and how I share information is not for you to decide.

I am not offended if you want to compare me to some derogatory term for a girl. Mostly they get those labels for doing the same things a guy can do and get a pat on the back for.
You probably played with action hero's because dolls are girlie. Gotta have a non-hypocritical view at the world right?

Also, even with the links I provided you still don't get it turns into a tier 1 backlink, not "some kind of backlink". Even if it is in plain text. lolz!
In other words: Even if I provide the information you ranted about and more: You still don't get it! It needs to be on your special shape e-spoon.

Unless you show me that you can backup your claims about me I say you are full of it. Seeing how I backed up everything I claimed and you have not, I feel this is fair.
This will be my final reply by the looks of it, I have better uses for my time than this. I will admit I wasn't super nice, seeing how you responded I can't regret that though...

On a side note, I did like that song. :) Also, I don't think you are stupid, you are just trying extremely hard to hide the intelligence you do posses. You have an attitude problem, if nothing else you should take that lesson from this thread.
