Hi,

My daughter is 8 years old, really wanting to get on YouTube, I am fairly hesitant but in the end I will have to give in as it’s all I can hear about.

At this point she even talks about how much she can make with it.

Now my questions, while I don’t mind investing a bit in it, I am looking at the financial part of it too.

Is YT for kids worth it?
Does it worth investing in it or should I just let it die on its own?
What niche on this would be decent ?

Any input appreciated.

You should ask her about which videos she wants to make. Treat it as a hobby, she's 8. She don't need to make an income out of it. If she does, amazing, but she'll quickly figure out that she needs to plan, shoot, edit, create thumbnails, add hashtags... It's not all fun and games.

Good mom / dad haha - here's a kids toy review channel that's made roughly $20M-$30M or more: https://www.youtube.com/@RyansWorld

It's definitely possible to blow up a channel like this, just focus on semi-consistent uploads which likely won't be a problem, thumbnails with high CTR (copy whats doing best in whatever niche) and good ol' clickbait titles or great SEO.

Is YT for kids worth it?
Yes, there are content creator kids who can set up their families for life doing youtube.

If she really wants to do it, support her and give her the tools.

What niche on this would be decent ?
It's quite difficult to tell as an adult, but I've seen kids doing toy reviews, playing games, solving puzzles, traveling, kids also have their own trends like the slime and stuff like that, she should know best.

It has its own market. You might not be able to understand it as adults do not watch these videos. But if you look at browsing history of daughter, you can find most of videos she watches are made by kids only.

Yeah, you can do fun videos and all. U can check the other competitors. And who’s knows maybe your kid gathers a following!

I see a lot of them painting and doing Art

Personally, I would let her do it for fun to start with, or are you one of those parents trying to make money from it?
Support her in any way you can, including financially, but don't look to make an income from it.
Give it a year and if she has gathered a following, then think about building it up.

Once a channel is hit and starts generating revenue she will have to devote some dedicated time for this. This is where the real danger starts.

She is just an 8 year old kid. Her first priority is to focus on education. You Tube is fine as long as it is a fun, but beware of the upcoming problems that come along with it, especially in case of young kid celebrities.

Yes yt for kids is worth it and maybe she can make her first moneys in there.

Monitor your child's activity on YouTube and talk to them about what they're watching.

Obviously keep a very close eye over it, possibly even a channel where her face is needed? Like a voice only channel? Also make sure she's aware of the bad side of the internet, all it takes is a troll comment to ruin everything.

once work comes in they quickly get desinterrested.
people have no clue how much work it takes to create good content

even if it's 0 earning. i think it's worth it.
your daughter can learn how to run a business, start with learning how to make intersting content, and marketing from early days, this experience and knowledge will be helpful for her future.
also i suggest do it with her, except she really want to do it herself, there is so many things need to be done to make sucessfull youtube channel. even if it failed the experience is worth it

Youtube is not for kids, mostly because of the hate comments random pleople will leave but if you delete those messages that part is ok, the type of videos will depend on your daugther ask her want she want to do and from there you might have an idea what type of videos you can create and don't invest on it, you can use that money to buy something for your daughter intead of giving it to someone else.

Set her expectations straight but support her in any way you can. If it is her goal to start a channel then help her. Let her learn about different stuff like researching, writing scripts etc. Even if she loses interest at some point she’s still learning important skills. Don’t worry too much about money.
