Guys, I am in the process of building my own blog network, but was wondering if it matters if I buy domains with PR with completely off topic domains.

Basically I only have clients in 3 niches and want to build networks for them, but it is really hard to find high PR old domains which are in these niches. So I am wondering if it matters if I just buy generic old domains and then install the content/links.

I am building one too. Seems like going the blog network route is a solid idea since now we have to make our backlinks appear as if they are coming from quality sites.

When buying your domains I would suggest getting domains that are as related to your niche as possible. If its the health niche then make sure you have health in the domain. Remember, you have to make your blogs appear as legitimate as possible. Would seem kind of odd to have a domain with "www.sportsbetting.com" then posting stuff about cats and dogs or whatever.

Also you have to remember PR is not up to date. It only updates one per year now and the last update was in feb 2011. When a domain gets dropped all the links that used to exist for that domain get dropped to no-follow. On google's backend, the PR is always changing based on the amount of backlinks that google is following to the domain. Once PR updates again then the real PR will be shown. If a pr 10 domain gets dropped and you register it then it will only be PR 0. However, if you go to check the pr through google toolbar it will look like PR 10 only because thats the old PR.

If you are looking to get high PR backlinks then just buy them on a month by month basis.

I also want more information on how people deal with the IP issue.

There is only 1 issue preventing all of us here from making gigantic blog networks we own - hosting costs for separate IPs.

    5 blogs per 1 ip.

make sure these blogs NEVER inter-link
make sure there are thousands of other sites on this shared IP (aka hostgator/justhost/godaddy)

PR became a pretty useless metric a long time ago. Better to look at the the SEO tools from places like seomoz. some are simple browser toolbar which will tell you the TRUST of a site (and thus how well it can rank)

how about if we make (article site or) wpmu site and each sudomain can handle different niche?
and/or include good quality web 2 sites in this network?

or it should be private domain hosted on shared hosting ?

I am buying domains to build this blog network and also use some of them to do 301 redirects to client sites.

I had a thread a couple days ago about this. I don't see why we dont' put up a centralized private site that we all post our blogs we want to add content to. For example. I have 10 aged domains separated between 2 hosting that I would love to put quality content on and give out some backlinks in exchange for the content. I also have blogger in every major niche to add to that. If we pitch in some websites it would be alot cheaper and look more natural
