Build a Boston Red Sox site?

I'm a Boston fan and was thinking of building a site about them. Probably be some kind of autoblog with RSS feeds and an occasional post by me.

I was looking at a way to monetize it. I usually look at adsense first since it's the easiest. I typed Boston Red Sox into google and not a single "Sponsored Link" came up. Usually I can just go to page 2 or 3 and something will come up, but not this time. So I was wondering if it is not possible to bid on the name Boston Red Sox since it's a trademark. I had an ad with WordPress rejected.

Adsense sucks anymore anyway and I was probably going to mostly use eBay and see if I can find a couple small CPA's to throw on it.

Has anyone else tried to bid on a sports team name?

team names are usually crappy verticals. What you are really after are things like 'red sox tickets' 'boston tickets' 'red sox jersey' and those sort of product verticals.

If you do a site about the red sox, adsense will likely serve you ads for these keywords and not serve no ads at all (it is google after all). Use the keyword tool and sniff out the red sox niches with the most advertiser competition and sort of work your content more in those directions.

I believe mlb.com has an affiliate shop feature, you can look into that to get commission on what is sold from your site.

Red Sox is a flagged trademark term in Adwords, i've tried it.

BTW: A red sox fan from New Jersey? Are you feeling ok?

I find it's easier to get traffic when you target a specific player or players. Even Red Sox Rumors and news would be good to go after

gah adwords trademark bidding is so annoying. sometimes the companies dont even care if you bid on their tm

I get that all the time being a Red Sox fan from NJ.

I might start up a blog about Kevin Youkilis soon as I have a domain of his nickname. It is just hard to write content during the off season.
