Anybody have any idea what could have caused this? Perhaps duplicate content? Built a link in the wrong place? Haven't made more than 60 links TOTAL to this domain. Anybody have any experiences like this in the past?

If its a new site I'm sure its just the Google dance. You'll settle in a spot soon, then you can work on getting back up to #1.

Google does bump up new sites as a kind of reverse sandbox, so its not surprising you didnt stay there.

Happens all the time to new sites, especially in low to moderate competition niches. Google finds the site and then ranks it for a bit while it is deciding where it really belongs. To keep yourself from stressing over it you need to realize that pretty much any rankings you see for the first couple of months are smoke. They may stick they may not. Just go with the flow and follow your linking plan.

I do not even check my new sites the first couple of months, it is a waste of time and energy. I make a link and content building plan for the first three months and then at about the 2 1/2 month mark I check and see how it is doing and made any needed adjustments for month four.

Make your plan, build your links and content and start looking for the next site to build. Stressing over the daily or even weekly rankings is just time and energy you could be putting to better use.

I agree with a lot of what has been said here. Google does "dancing" all the time.

Another thing to consider is new content bonus. I think google may rank high some new content to see if people click on it and like it. Google can tell how long people stay on a site before they come back to the search page.

lol, the title of this thread answers itself...
    A) Brand new domain ranked quickly
    B) Dropped rankings within a week

Not unusual and quite common for a new site as someone else on here has already stated.

Be consistent and watch for improvements over the next month or so.

    Its just Google Dance,

Just keep building more backlinks, and you will be fine.

    Concentrate on

    Article Marketing

    Social Bookmarking

    Web 2.0 sites

    and

    Press releases

and build atleast 50-100 backlinks a day to maintain link velocity.
