All of our sites have a bounce rate that we would like to desperately bring down to increase conversions.

Most people would think that reducing the bounce rate would probably require a major re haul of the website design and so on but in fact it is quite easy to reduce your bounce rate in just 5 or 10 minutes.

    Here is how

    • Put yourself in the customer's shoe in terms of frame of mind - What is he/she looking for? What will get him/her excited. Make a note of this.
    • Think of one good sentence with which you can directly relate to the customer. It has to be just one sentence, the shorter the better.
    • Write it out and put it on your website at the top of all the other content in bold and large text.
    • Do not worry about it looking ugly or out of place.
    • People are interested in relevance and will bounce regardless of how beautiful your site is if it is not relevant.
    • Even if your site is relevant but does not project itself as so, they will bounce because they have no patience.
    • Take action - You have nothing to lose because you are not making any changes to your on site SEO.
    • Make the change for a day or two and see if your bounce rate decreases.
    • If you just apply the above method with a good common sense, you are almost guaranteed to see your bounce rate drop.
Good luck with your efforts if you decide to try this out.

    • Thanks Thanks x 3

    Sorry Please no offense but;

Do you believe the things you have written above? It is something like "How to become a millionaire" or "How to get any woman you like into bed in 10 minutes."

    And this sentence:
What is common sense? Working? Knowing? Feeling? Speaking? Ignoring?...

They're not bad suggestions, they're just easier said then done I suppose.

Bounce rate can occur for so many reasons, depending on the kind of site/product/offering you have. Some sites I have will have a 20% bounce rate but the homepage looks terrible, it's just the people who go to it click on any link they see. Others look great, have great sales copy, but have a 60% bounce rate. Part of it would be, give great content on your landing page, but then have them wanting more, and give a clear, easy way for them to 'access' that information (by clicking a link to another page)

Yeah, me too. Either take his advice or don't. Why does it matter if he uses it or not?

Man why you are here, it doesn't seem you are from IM... BTW this should be in some joke section... LOL

btw Ramsweb nice advice, although would like to add one thing design also matters, most people who go in first few seconds just look for overall site look if it attracts them or not or they look for that catching sentance...

Either one will help you to reduce bounce rate and if you can get both then it's gonna big boost... If your site got returning visitor then they will also reduce bounce rate because they liked your site and coming back to explore more...

Personally, I've found including an 'involvement tool' on my clients' sites has dramatically reduced bounce rate.

    - a simple :30 to :60 second "how-to" video

for example: Medical Minute / Dental Minute / Legal Minute / Car Care Minute...
(obviously depending on your client's profession)

    - then add an opt-in form - right side - above the fold
offering (X) more free 'how-to' videos.

(or something of value - like a free web site analysis)

    Bottom line:

Whether you use video or not, get the visitor involved right from the start.
Give them a reason to stay and click thru to other pages.

Your conversions will increase, and Google will love you for it too.

A video is something that I definitely need to add. I think people like the personal interaction, it allows them to trust the website a little bit more. Thanks for this suggestion - I will be putting up one very soon to see how it goes. I will post pack the results here as well.

Sorry maybe I said the things in a wrong way. I just meant that I did not believe the methods mentioned above since there are infinite number of functions as input. So it is not reasonable to set up a certain formula.

Anyway, I do not agree with you. But again sorry for expressing in that way. Thanks.

@edgematch - this isn't some kind of get rich manual are step by step method to riches. This thread is simply about things that can be done to optimize your website to get better results. If you aren't already using some method utilizing a website, then of course this thread isn't going to help you much.

If all you're looking for is step by step methods to make you money, then you should browse through the Making Money subforum. There are many other threads you can find that might be more to your liking.

For the rest of us that are already using websites to market our products or ref links, these are some good ideas on things we can do to optimize our pages to retain more of the traffic we already get. The bounce rate is nothing more than lost leads. The more we can do to prevent losing that traffic can do nothing but help our sales. Either through additional visitors that stay to click on our offer, or by having better bounce rate stats which could affect our position in the SERP.

    Thanks for the suggestions Ramsweb.

Hi there, thanks for posting again, I haven't posted a video but I did put in a very low pressure opt in box that is getting about a 10% sign up rate. I am happy with this figure for now.

I am still working on the video for the site.:)
