Hello all, so I am confused to what has happened with this website. Before I bought it 3 days ago, I had the owner share analytics and it was wonderful, and it has been consistent for 3 months. I also was allowed to put my adsense code, and I was getting anywhere from $20 - $30/day easily and another $6 - $8 from infolinks, so this made me want to get the website for sure. as it seemed consistent.

After everything was transferred to my server, 2 days later here I am barely getting 0 - 20uniques, like it completely fell off. I know that I had a sitemap issue, but I have resubmitted that and it has been indexed. The site has no seo done to it from my end or the previous owner, instead naturally other automotive related website were linking back to the site, so I saw that as a plus. It has been consistently had 10 - 20 pieces of unique content a day, and the site total is at about 7.5k articles (5 year old website btw).

Not sure, what has happened, considering I have only hit $100 of adsense earnings so far, I bought the website for 4k, which was a steal for me..I don't know.

Was it the server change? The sitemap error? I don't see any google updates in the last few days. My other sites are fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

Sounds like you might have gotten scammed. Very easy to bring fake "unique" traffic in. Get your money back if possible.

So the only traffic was coming from websites linking you?

Maybe after you bought it they (sites that linked him) removed his links as he was no longer the owner.

OP does say he made money from it, not like he just bought the site and BAM nothing.

did you did a semrush check on it, before? looks like you were scammed with fake traffic, which can be make look like coming from google, same for the adsense, fake clicks, because google usually bans you before getting paid.

I think it may have something to do with the server change and possible the owner name change on the DNS for the domain. I changed the owner name for one of my sites before and traffic from Google went way down for a couple days.

Thanks for the replies, all traffic was from organic, nothing direct for sure. I did do an SEMRush and it was all normal in my standards, and analytics showed keywords that this website was getting, many getting 1 or 2, but the website has many keywords so it adds up.

@TrevorB in the godaddy I left all domain information same as the previous owner, as it was pushed to me. Should I actually put my information? I thought with Server change, some traffic is sustained and then it comes back to normal?

I'm sure I didn't get spammed as I have bought another website from the person, and the website actually started performing much better once I got it, in terms of traffic and adsense.

    Thanks for the input guys!

I think it was scam, if you say there was proof it made $30 per day Adsense and $8 per day info links, that's $38 per day.

That means you got the site for 3 months earnings which seems much too good a deal to me.

Do you know where the traffic was coming from and what terms the site was ranking for, try to find out what has actually changed.

Doubt it's the hosting change unless you really cocked something up.

Either one of the two following things happened:
    1) You got scammed, the guy was buying cheap traffic or just using proxies.
    2) The website lost its ranking in search engines due to the server transfer.

@davids355 No direct traffic, all organic with actual keywords. The analytics history stretched 2 - 3 months and all seemed normal. I know it seems way too good to be true, but I have bought another website from him and almost making my initial investment back. I even hire this guy to do my web designing, so its not just someone new that I met, you know?

So it can't be that the sitemap.xml was f'ed up?

I have disabled all scheduled posts for now, is this a good idea?

    Thank you guys!

By the way guys, I paid via Credit Card using paypal, so at any time I can just dispute the charge and I'm sure I'll win. I just don't want to be that type of guy at the moment.

After disputing, I'm willing to give this guy everything back, domain and website files...I won't keep any of it, that would be stealing.

    I would put your information.

Also remember, moving servers changes the IP address of your site and I think Google may look at IP stats for a domain also when ranking. Like how many other sites on that IP, etc.

Give it a few days, and I'm sure the traffic will come back up.

How many days has it been since you lost all the traffic?

Did you transfer this site to your own webmaster tools and analytics?

@TrevorB I just changed all domain information to mine. It has been exactly 2 days, today would be the 3rd. Webmaster tools and analytics are on my account.

Google has indexed the website already yesterday, wouldn't that mean it has seen all the new information/stats of the website?

Give it a few more days and keep adding new posts to the site as usual.

What was wrong with sitemap file?
Have you indentified if positions have dropped / dissapeared?

I wouldn't have thought change of host should have such big effect - unless it's temporary as suggested above.

One thing I might try is do a site: search on google and try some pages at random - it's maybe possible that something messed up in htaccess or something and page names/urls have changed?

Other than that, maybe give it a few days if the seller is trusted by you.

@TrevorB Thank you for the advice. I will wait till the end of the week.

@Davids355 the sitemap.xml wasn't loading to a weird error, but once I clicked rebuild in the wordpress plugin that I am using, it started working perfect again. I just did a search for a couple url's from the 28th, 29th and some haven't been indexed, but the ones that are do work fine.

Just to update everyone, the website is still at 0, pretty much dead.

If everything you say it's true, either the site got penalized just as you purchased it (very slim change) or .. most probably.. the previous owner used a homepage private blog network or other link building techniques that required monthly payments to keep the links live, and once the website has been sold, he canceled the payments and the links got removed- very common to fall for this trick if you do not have an experienced seo take a look at the website link profile and telling you everything is ok.

Faking traffic to look like search engine traffic is also a very real possibility... i mean.. you say no one did seo on the website and it was making 40$ per day from adsense and organic traffic... something is fishy here.. rarely a site makes 1000$+ p/m from adsense through google without a solid seo campaign behind it.

If you want i can take a look at the website and see if i manage to identify the problem. I love digging into website history and have the expertise to do due diligence, i like this kind of detective work.

You got scammed man. Fake traffic must be the reason. Check the alexa rank first before buying and also your personal comment about the site.
