HI Guys, I have bought a domainname from an auction for a fairly good price. Now I noticed since 2 weeks it is in my possesion the unique visitors is already at 1600. This is all from old links, only have new wordpress installation without content at the moment. Now in the above picture you see something strange. The pages and hits are really high. And every refresh there are more coming. What is this and why is it going up so fast? The website has got like 20.000 pages indexed in Google. How can I make use of those indexed links which are not on the website anymore? When clicking them you get nowhere. How to utilize that and the backlinks on other sites to my advantage?
Why would you use Scrapebox? I don't see how that answers his question or helps at all. @ OP - I'd suggest a few options: - Use archive.org & Google cache (or similar site) to replicate the old site including pages and content - especially on the pages that have the "best" links. - Make sure you have a good 404 error page - ideally 301 it back to your homepage or send them to a navigational page. That will ensure all the old links are still useful.
I was thinking about getting some old content from the best links back on the website indeed. I now have the plugin 404 to start installed to get the 404 visits to the homepage. In settings I selected the 301- moved permanently and makes it point to the homepage. Is that what you mean and is that good? Or should I make a special post for al 404 visits with some links and navigation so they will stay and click on to other items and keep them? The website is about products, like many different sort of products. I do not want to review them, I want to write about them and release dates etc. What theme would you recommend? Kind of off topic, but maybe you have a great theme that suits the need for this. Kind of a blog/magazine site. And can you explain why pages and hits go up every 2 seconds almost?
Sorry I should have quoted this part of his post. He's noticing really high number of pageviews/UVs and I'm pretty sure its the spammers hitting OPs site with scrapebox... Apparently, Awstat counts the requests as pageviews and that could be the reason for high PVs in his awstat report.
Oh yeah, that could be possible. But still unique visits is well over 2000 for a small 2 weeks. Those should be real visitors rights and now scrapebox? It would be strange if those would count as real on the first line.
If You have wordpress, check for 404 redirected plugin, it can do nice matching (at least it try) 301 redirect to most matching page of Your site. Keep matching score on about 30% and if Yave something related to old site content all links get their new destination. IMO it's way more better then just redirect everything to main page.
