Book or PDF recommendations

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for books that have been helpful to them. I suppose I should start with the basics, though html/css and javascript shouldn't be too hard to learn for me(Programming background though no web experience really). Mainly I just want a few good books on SEO, affiliate marketing, mostly white hat beginner stuff. I read a lot of methods for this or that on here but I want to actually understand the innards of the stuff instead of just following a recipe so to speak. I know most people here kinda learn by doing, but I like to have a couple books to read so I feel like I'm doing something when I'm away from home or the computer. Books, pdf's, links all welcome, a general primer on making money on the web would be nice but it's my experience that most of those type of things are bunk you know. So give me some good recommendations guys I need to separate the hype from the actual good stuff.

books aint the best source of info just look on bhw stored with cool info which will beat books to death, most books is guru trash which gets fired out to make money online newbies or if to intermediates then it's raining refunds, i'm actually going to sell some guru style courses and launch the same way for a product in like a few months about aff.marketing but really you should just stick to BHW

Thats exactly the problem. What I need is something that explains backlinks, design, maybe some CMS systems that some of you guys find useful, mysql/apache stuff, that sort of thing. What sort of thing did you guys read before you really started getting into this stuff? Whats the required reading for starting up with web marketing and that sort of thing? Nowadays with wordpress and that kind of stuff its fairly easy but I want to understand things a bit more deeply I suppose. Are you guys doing any programming for sites aside from html/css, curl, php that kinda stuff? Basically I want something useful to read and I want it to be somewhat applicable to my current web marketing ventures, but there seems to be a lot of trash out there.
