Starting a word-press blog for my father, as he's always wanted to create his own Body-building/Personal training blog. I've already purchased the domain/host and wanted to get this set-up for him as a suprise as he talks about wanting to do it all the time. He writes around 300-700 words a day on a popular body-building forum, and participates in Bodybuilding competitions locally. He's wanting to become a Personal Trainer, but understands he needs something to build off of.

Over-time we want to make this website become a zone for his trainee's however for the time being a standard blog is fine.

    Anybody have some recommendations?

Perhaps I should make it clear that our website experience is close to none.

I would say it depends on how much you're willing to tweak the theme to your liking. If you're looking to customize, I would firmly go with Dynamik childtheme for the Genesis framework. Genesis kills it with loading time in my experience and the childtheme allows you to tweak almost everything without any code.

If your looking for a nice standalone theme, then have a look at http://themeforest.net/tags/bodybuilding

Tailoring things ourselves isn't going to really cut it, as I don't have much money to put in this and he doesn't know I'm doing it for him.
I don't have very much knowledge when it comes to blogs, etc.
I know how to set them up and post on them, that's about it.
    I'm a forum guy.

    Home Page:
I set one up for a client recently and used Expert by web-dorado. It is an easy theme to work with, allows for some images to spice up the site and easy for the client to update with content.

Actual client is a professional female body builder and this worked out real well for her.
