Which one would rank higher in your opinion, if they have the exact same content, the same backlinks, etc.

bluewidgets.example.com
or
example.com/bluewidgets

I personally prefer example.com/bluewidgets, especially if example.com has PR. The other one, bluewidgets.example.com, has its own PR which is not always the same as example.com.

On the other hand, bluewidgets.example.com is considered by G as a separate host, so will be able to show a result for a keyword that already has a high-ranking example.com result.

Could you potentially keyword stuff the domain name?

such as:

MakeMoneyOnline.MakeMoneyOnline99898.com

or
