Ever since I have been interacting with so many Americans my effing spelling has gone to pot. I find myself writing loosing instead of losing (correct spelling), organize instead of organise (correct spelling), humor instead of humour (correct spelling), center instead of centre (correct spelling) - I could go on :confused:

Actually - organize, humor, center are correct - if we used the alternative spellings you provide here in the US - they might think we were from the UK or something

as for "loosing", it's misspelled only if the writer doesn't mean letting someone or something loose.

If it's a matter of "I'm losing my ass on this deal, and I really think it looks best where it is", then "loosing" would not be the correct spelling, although many here in the US make that error.

all those things are spelled correctly in American English except for loosing... I don't know where you got that from.

It's not like Americans are trying to trick you by spelling things wrong.

I feel your pain!

Although I am an American by birth, I was taught British English as a child along with German spoken at home!

Stupid people accuse me of "putting on airs" with my spelling!

Knuckleheads!

I have difficulty remaining centred but endeavour to persevere!

And all this business of ending sentences with prepositions is something up with which I will not put!

Never mind the decline of the subjunctive; "If I were..."; correct; NOT "if I was..."

Grates on my nerves, that one does!

And the misuse of the apostrophe which does NOT indicate plural but rather possessive!

Enough to make a grown man cry!

Or seek solace in the Fruit of The Grape!

Or both. ;)

I hope you are kidding - this is just me kidding about - ie a joke (although my spelling IS going to pot).

I know you spell lose the same way we do, but it seems that I see it spelt loose more often than not.
 
i left the south so it would cause permanent damage to the grammar and pronuncation centers of my brain...

They may not be able to speak or write a proper sentence, but they're full of wisdom and LOTS of fun :p:p {StillSmiling runs off to find cheap airfare home}
 
In Singapore we were taught the "Queen's English".

Thought now that this discussion is being held, the US and the UK should do what Malaysia and Indonesia did. Compromise.

As Malaysia was previously part of the British colony, and Indonesia was previously part of the Dutch colony, the spelling for similar words were different. Therefore in an effort to ease the confusion, they agreed to standardise the spellings.

But oh well, we can go on and on, but honestly who the hell cares how we spell or write. It only matters whether the reader understands. :smoker:
