What do the pros think is better? For my private network of blogs just for backlinks should I use blogrolls/sidebar links or above the fold contextual links? I know blogrolls are sitewide but above the fold contextual links are as powerful as they get.

    What do you guys think?

I'd use contextual links, I don't trust tons of sidebars.

Contextual so long as the link is surrounded by relevant content, not random unrelated words.

my main competitor is ranking with 2-3 blogrolls and its pissing me off. I have tryed everything. High PR blog post, blogroll, pyramid. I still think high pr contextual blog post is better despite my stupid competitor.

contextual links works well but try to add some blog roll links as well linking with in your site, that will give more natural linking.

Use both.... Try different anchor text, and deep links in your website too.

When getting contextual backlinks for foreign websites, the article is in english but the anchor text in another language.. Does it still give enough power to the backlink?

Being, link provider - I highly recommend contextual links for my client's. Who experience good ranking improvements & (google panda & penguin ) safe with contextual links while compared to blog roll.

    Thanks,
    Bart

Blogroll links are nothing but a link which is placed in the list of links in the blog. And the contextual link is the link which is placed in the running matter (link with an anchor text in the paragraphs). The contextual links get the more PR juice than the blogroll links (both are useful in ).
I prefer contextual , because Google best method of link building is "Contextual link Building". So pls promote your website by contextual link building.

I would love to get a PR 0 contextual link from a PR 2 domain, rather than getting a PR 4 blogroll.
