Hey guys, looking to dive in and create some discussion ;)...

Let's say I want to blog about an activity which is illegal in the U.S but legal in Amsterdam. Lets call that activity "swimming." I won't be swimming, I'll be explaining to my readers the ways that others swim. I'll explain how good swimmers become good, etc... If I do what I said, do you think that can be considered "promoting" the illegal activity? My domain and niche will be centered around the illegal activity, but I won't be advocating it and I will be sure to include something like (I do not promote this and you should be aware of your laws blah blah blah) somewhere.

Something I picked up on Blogger:
Don't use Blogger to engage in illegal activities or to promote dangerous and illegal activities. For example, don't author a blog encouraging people to drink and drive. Otherwise, we may delete your content.

Would it benefit me to use an IP from Amsterdam or would that make no difference?

[I'm not a bad guy I just want a solid niche and I happen to have the passion and knowledge about swimming :p]

Are you using blogger? If so, just host the blog yourself. Then no worries.
Blogger can delete your shit for whatever reason they want. You want control of your money site.

So by hosting myself, I should be ok? I'm going for the long term and don't want to get anything taken down if I get something good rolling

If u want to really be safe use your own hosting but Blogger has tons of warez and movie/tv sites that are still up and some even rank on first page

At first i thought this was about hookers but then I realized it was smoking weed probably.

Adsense says no drugs and even no alcohol I think. So I wouldn't run a blog about drugs with adsense enabled.

This. I wouldn't really go for AdSense - Blogger or otherwise - with this type of niche. And I'd also start it on self-hosted WP to just make it more smooth sailing, with Blogger you never know - although it's true that there are n+1 warez etc. sites still online via them.

Domain you'll need really anyway, and hosting you're able to get for like $10-20/year if not less, so why bother?

I wouldn't under any circumstances invest any of my time on Blogger, or any other forum that has the power to 100% delete my work. Why fuck around with Blogger anyways. It's nothing more than a Tier 1 feeder, suitable only for spamming the shit out of it.

Ok no Blogger. Didn't think I would go with them any way, I just used their rule in the OP as an example. Would hosting with hostgator and then installing wordpress on my site be ok? Not exactly sure what self-hosting is.. If I didn't have hostgator I wouldn't know wtf I was doing. Still learning..

self-hosting means: buy domain and hosting and have your page on that.

so do that, install wordpress, add some basic plugins (supercache, auto thumbnail, meta seo, google analyticator, pingler, xml sitemap), do basic setup (custom permalinks etc.).

get a good template, make your page look appealing. create an about, privacy etc. page.

write some unique and useful articles around your main keywords, add good looking highres pictures to it.

edit your robots.txt to allow bots.
add your site to google analytics and webmaster tools. put your sitemap to webmaster tools, send the google crawler to your page.

create social sites like tumblr, blogger, facebook, twitter, pinterest etc. , add social networks autoposter to your wordpress, set it up to automatically post your stuff to all the sites.

finally add adsense, or if that is not safe for your stuff, any other ad network.

    thats the basic stuff.

I think the idea of a standard, standalone website is best. That way, if "something happens", you can move the site somewhere else with little or no hassle. I think Hostgator is best for reliability. Last I heard, they will only allow one website per account, when other services will let you have as many as 5 sites on a single, basic level account. There are cheaper services. I use Blue Host, which is okay. My site seems to load glitchy/slowly sometimes, but I haven't tried to find out if that's the site host or my ISP.

i can recommend arvixe.com for hosting. I am using their service for adult websites and never had any problems. Hosting is fast and stable, prices are ok, they accept paypal and you can have up to 5 domains with the basic hosting package.
