A shoutout to all my fellow bloggers out there!

Currently I am buying all my pictures from a sock photo agency but this limits my blog post frequency to 1 post everyday since I can't keep up the costs in the long run as long as my specified blog does not return enough revenue to cover the costs.

How do other blogs do this? Especially the ones just starting out. Is there a (reliable) free source of high quality images that I'm missing here?
Or do they contact the original photographer of the picture and ask for a permit (for free usage of course)?

Hotlink - Just be sure to use this in the alt "Hotlinked courtesy of BLOG" ;^)

I prefer to upload the images on my host first. I have seen many blogs doing the "Source: Nameofblog" thing.
Is that safe from getting in trouble with the copyright holder?

I was joking. I wouldn't hotlink unless it is allowed. If you search around you can find bots that download royalty free images from flickr. You're supposed to have a link back, blah, blah, blah, but the bots can download the images locally. I've never had problems using those without the link back, but doesn't mean it can't happen. G is really good at recognizing images, even if you tweak them with Photoshop. If you want new image credit from G you can put together your own gallery of images and make unique collages, etc.

I recommend you to use Flickr.
There are tons of photos and you can filter them by license. There is CC (Creative Commons) which allows you to use them anywhere you want (inc. commercial use).

There are plenty plugins if you have WP. Photodropper for example, and it goes under Creative commons license.. ;)

Was going to suggest an effective method until I seen the posts about the licences. These folks are correct, have to support Creative Commons. I have a 36G upload img site I want shot of. It needs a little php attention though.

There isn't much better for finding decent images that you can use (legally) than search.creativecommons

There are tons of free (creative common's license) pictures you could use.
