If you have a blog page with 30 links to the same site some variations of the keywords you are targeting... will all 30 count or will only one count?

i notice a blog that has 100 odd links in 20 odd posts which are very spammy however the money site is ranking as this being a major principal of their strategy..

Thus it makes sense surely for us to investigate and replicate?

One will count. Its the domain the link is from which is important.. one domain = 1 link.. Put 300 links on the one domain it still counts as one. Some of the other anchors may assist in the general scheme of things particularly if the are follow and the page they are listed on carry some PR..

Put up 300 blogs on 300 different domains and you have 300 different and countable links, but then you have other headaches to worry about such as unique content for each and carefully crafting the link structure to make it look natural.

PHEWWWWEYYYYYY that is such a relief... IF your are correct.....

So why would they anchor text the hell out of one set of blog posts on one blog account.???

Like 50 blogs on one page over various months... each post is like 100 or 200 words and has at least 10 links anchored in there.

Looking at their strategy it looks like the only consious work they have done. That and they have DMOZ.

if the anchor texts are slightly different or totally different doesn't matter to the crawler. they just see that they are different and they will be considered as different links and all fo them will be counted. i am quite sure about this.:)

AH HA!! This means that Geezer might be mistaken and they all do count...which seems to make sense.
