"I learned that my site was stolen on a Saturday. Three days later I had it back, but only after the involvement of fifty or so employees of six different companies, middle-of-the-night conferences with lawyers, FBI intervention"

Just read it. FBI got involved but in the end she solved it herself... FBI will find the guy so he's pretty much out of luck...
but nevertheless, she has a point - someone with bad intentions could "screw" you over by social engineering your registrar....

But still, nice story, Good for her that she got her site back.

The thing which I found very appreciating about the guy was - I didn't panic: this seemed like something that could be fixed with a couple of emails.

Most people start getting worried and don't know what to do but this guy remained confident that he could get back easily.

Heard a few stories recently of people's accounts being hijacked and then the scammers trying to extort cash out of the owners.
All of them seem to have had trouble with their hosting etc. they take our money every month but it looks like they couldn't give a sh@t

Hopefully the FBI raids his home, feels threatened, and does the proper thing. Fills him with lead. Maybe we can see the guy on liveleak one day.
