In the long run I would have to say wordpress, blogger is nice but the downside is that it's a hosted blog and you can't install plugins or customize it to the extent that you can customize wordpress.

wordpress is so easy a monkey could use it. there's a massive support network, and an endless array of plugins and free themes. go with wordpress now and you'll be happier later...

Thanks guys. I was actually considering Joomla but I have heard that there is a much bigger learning curve than Blogger and Wordpress. Is that the case?

It is the case. Joomla is great software, but if all you want is a blog then it's just overkill. Blogger is OK, but as everyone said you have much more power with Wordpress. The nice thing about Wordpress is that there are so many people using it, it's very likely that someone has solved whatever problem you may have so it's easy to find help.

wordpress's beauty is that it is both extremely powerful and extremely simple - all depends how much you want to do with it. So it is easy to get into, and then can be built up to do almost anything.

Joomla is a little less user friendly and takes far more effort to set up and make effective - but is still pretty good to work with long term once you know what you are doing

Wordpress, I stand behind it, i guarantee it!!

Wordpress is better for a noob, and for a pro, too. You have much Plugins for it, etc.

But you can use Blogspot, too..for something not so special, or a huge amount of Blogs. My Blogspot Blogs with about 100 links rank better, then my Wordpress with also 100 links.

But that should be because of the subdomain.

So, go check Wordpress out !!

Yes, Wordpress can be more customized, but I would never say that it is more friendly to noob, than a Blogger.

And these days, Blogger blogs can look pretty nice, and they have more and more users

I don't know, maybe I am little romantic, but I love Blogger more than Wordpress ( even if it really has less features )

If you're a noob noob you'd like to try Blogger, you don't have to do anything but write. As you┬┐re learning more you'll realize that you need more features which you can easily find in WordPress, so my suggestion is start learning the basics of blogging, it doesn't matter what plattform you use, but if you want a concise answer I'd go with WordPress from the beginning.

If you are looking for a feature rich application and endless customization, wordpress is your answer. However, blogger can be a useful tool as well. It really is geared towards noobz. You don't need any blogging knowledge, hosting, domains, etc. to get started with blogger. Other members have mentioned Joomla, which is also a fabulous tool but certainly not geared towards the novice.

Far better to go through the smaller learning curve with Wordpress, Joomla is a heavyweight solution by comparison. I wouldn't use any system where I didn't have control over the hosting, that rules blogger out.

Both utilities have their advantages and disadvantages. Wordpress has a little more functionality and is more customizable. Blogger has the advantage of being part of Google, and thus incorporating Google widgets and code is relatively easier. It depends on the fellows motivations. For a business blog, I would use wordpress. For a personal blog, there's no reason not to use Blogger.

Wordpress is also free..:).. thousands of free wordpress hosting sites out there.. On UNIQUE IP's..

There was a day when Blogger made me a lot of money. Those days are long gone though and now wordpress makes me the bucks..:)
