    Besides the obvious
    mysite.com and mysite.blogpost.com

What are some differences in having your own domain, and having a blogspot account? I was thinking of finding a niche, and setting up a blogspot account with no adsense, no affiliates, nothing. Just articles (3-5/day), some backlinks, some bookmarking.. Simple SEO (If that is called SEO even) and see if I can bring any Traffic to the site

Good idea for a person who never made a blog in there life before? Or a waste of time?

Not a bad idea but you need to work out what you want to do with it. If you are new to this, then why not, look at it as some practice but always have a monotization plan in mind. There is no point just making a site to see if you can get traffic to it. What if you only get a small amount of traffic and they are buying traffic, but since you don't have anything to offer them then they are just going to leave and you would never know.

The main difference is that your domain you own, nobody can take that away from you but with the hosted version, it could go at any time, unlikely unless you do something wrong but always a possiblity.

The hosted blog is easier to set up and maintain and good to get a feel for what you are doing but if you want to spend a lot of time on this then why not spend $5 host it yourself and learn the whole process.

    just my 2 cents

hey digitalblue, thanks a lot for the reply!

Well what if the prupose of the blogspot would be to make them signup to my e-mail list? So then I will have a targeted niche emails. And when I make a site with that same niche, I will use those e-mails to sell my stuff?

You could make the blog on your hosted site and setup a opt-in form to collect mails. You can also point blogspot/squidoo/various other pages to your page, and like digitalblue said putting some kind of monetization in is favorable. If you start from your own host, you don't have the risk of someone getting a wild hair up their butt to ban you and shut down your site even if you got up to 1k uniques/day it wouldn't matter then b/c all your work would be deleted.
