So according to serpbook, a lot of the new content I have been providing for a client is ranking better than the original pages that were written for keywords. But I am not doing link building to them, but still to the pages. Yet the blog posts are ranking for keywords I am trying to get pages to rank for. Do you think I should start link building to the new blog posts instead, or continue trying to rank the pages?

I have done a site google search for site: keyword to see what pages google thinks.. and most are blog posts now. what do you think

Yes, you should build links for the new blog post. Focusing on content and build link on high quality niche sites only.

I think you should take a good look at the on page factors of the original pages "written for keywords". Make sure they are not written following outdated on-page guidelines, stuff like keyword density, over optimization, etc... They do not work any more, ever since the hummingbird update, google ranks content that looks natural, lsi keywords, synonims, etc.. hence why normal blogposts may look more natural than pages.

Other reasons may have to do with your internal linking, normal blog posts may get more internal link juice than isolated pages, depending on your site structure.

Last but not least, freshness is also a factor. If blog posts are new, they usually rank better than old pages.

If i were you, i would focus on the main pages with keywords to improve them, as money landing pages. Blog posts come and go, they may even get visitors, but if they are not optimized for conversions, it makes no sense to try to rank them. Also, if blog posts link to your keyword pages, in time keyword pages should rank much better.

Google always appreciates "Updates in Content" blog is the section of website which updates regularly, and it like for blogs we have the category option, which points to the content of same niche or keyword, this is the reason that blog posts are ranking, it is suggested to use link from your blog post to your targeted website page.

Yes of course. You can go Blog posts links from high authority site. Bcz lots of very low quality domains in marketplace. Like low DA/PA, No Backlinks, No Social authority and much more.

If the blog looks like very authority sure you can contribute to him. Authority links are 1 = 100 links. And make sure content is king so you much concentrate high quality content too. Never can hit from Hummingbird update too.

I still suggest that you take a look at your pages' on page SEO. Commonly what I see is that pages aren't optimized well and not much content than blog posts. This is because normally pages are used for relative information than blog posts that is written in an informal way. I suggest that you re create the content more to appeal the readers and do on page SEO.
