I operate a few blogs. I get some of the stupidest, most F..ed up spam you can imagine. Terrible comment spinning and content that isn't even close to the post topic.

If you own a blog you probably know all about this. Have you tried these plugins to help.

    Replace xx with tt

    hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sabre/

    hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/

    hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-captcha-free/

Sabre looks extremely powerful. What are your thought on these plugins.

I'm new to blogging. So I think I should get some readers before I make it too tough to comment. So I left off Sabre.

Anyway, hopefully these will help you. Or if they are not good for blog owners maybe you can tell me why and I can get rid of them.

For a known Scrapebox spammer this seems self defeating but, this forum has been a tremendous benefit to me. So I wanted to demonstrate that I can be useful to the community as well. And, some of the comments I read today were so pathetic I wanted to tell the blog owners about these plugins but, I refrained. I'd rather share here.

Please let me know if there are reasons to not have these installed.

Sabre is for registrations and just provides all sorts of captchas. Cookies for comments will reduce but not eliminate spam.

The best answer is to erase the footprints around your comment forms. The bots cant find you as easily then.

You can change up the simplest stuff like having "What are your thoughts?" instead of "post a comment"

Using WP Spamfree and Akismet will definitely suffice your job. Further you can use clickcha or recaptcha though I dont like them personally as they can be cracked with decaptcher or similar services. You can also use Pti's Hidden Field Antispam for comment plugin to make things easier.

Don't worry about the spam comments- they can be your friends. Think of them as your "honeypots" that attract spammers and then use their footprints to find auto-approve blogs for scrapebox.
