I noticed that a lot of sites lost ranking due to the latest panda update. I think the main reason is due to irrelevant content posts on blog networks. Once Google deindex the sites on the those blog networks, you lose the value of that links and the money that you paid for them. The worst thing is that your site will also get slapped due to these blog links. So what are everyone's thoughts on the power of blog networks? Are they still powerful?

Private blog networks are dangerous. You need to know what you are getting into before you submit your posts onto a private blog network.

You are taking a chance that those links will get de-indexed. If you are willing to risk it, then go for it, but if you have good rankings already, then don't be greedy.

I was greedy and wanted it all. My rankings were good before I got involved with private networks and now I am paying the price.

Be careful with these types of links.

Yeah some are, they are all still missing a few tricks, they need the blogs to be part of a tiered network rather than a flat system

    Dont use spun content content

Always use unique content and you will not be penalized

I dunno I would think twice before using a blog network nowadays. Until they clean up their act. I see alot of the new services are gettting away from them...for a good reason.

do your research and in the end its your decision and that's what is great about seo...each of us is responsible for the decisions we make...

just to note...you will see a great increase in your rankings by using private networks, this is 100% true...but how long will these rankings last?...

if you want fast results, use private networks b/c it will work...in the long term, not so sure...in fact, 100% sure it will not work...the reason i say this is from experience...

BMR is always using "Unique content" but still they get penalized. The bottom line is "Google hates paid links and link schemes" regardless if you are using unique content or spun content.

I agree...you are playing craps when you use private networks...if you use them, know you will receive immediate positive results, but in the long run, you will get bitch slapped by google...

greed is a funny thing...greed gets the best of us...its so easy to be greedy...

i am so at fault for wanting the number 1 ranking of all my keywords...i was optimizing for 147 keywords and i had number one ranking for most and the others i was on the first page with only wikipedia and the actual authority site in front of me, i wanted to beat those too...

this was my downfall...i didn't even have to use private networks or high pr home page back links....i already had the rankings i wanted...

its messed up...i have learned a great lesson in this whole thing...

So really it wasn't the networks or the type of links but your greed? You pushed too hard to fast and got slapped? In that case its not the private blog networks but rather how you use it.....(just like Xrumer and Scrapebox before) in mederation...slow and steady while making sure you add content and build other types of links.

So yes you could blast your site to top 5 in a week but if you try to get there slowly over a couple of months, this will look more natural and less likely to get slapped.

Guys if your site has no links and a week later has 100 links then flags will go up, take your time and plan your link building, get quality and be steady, 1 great link is worth over 1000 crap ones

Minimize your footprint and interlinking, spread out your IPs, write with different voices, collaborate with other blog owners for diversity, link more chaotically ("naturally"), maintain consistent backlinking rates.

Blog networks aren't dead, they're just changing.

And frankly, poor pyramids and linking make the good ones stronger.

This is pretty much just another way of saying, make your own.

To my knowledge, only a literal handful of people have 150-200 web 2.0 posting bots that can push out 5 digits of web 2.0s in a day...
