I don't see blog journeys on here often (probably because it's more white-hat), but I love the idea recording what I am doing and having a community to share my journey with, so I decided to post here!

I have spent the last 10 days building my website and sprucing up different ideas on how to grow the site. I just started promoting it today and have gotten my first 5 subscribers! I can't wait to see where this goes as it is in a niche I am really passionate and knowledgeable about: music production.

I plan to monetize it through e-book sales, video courses, and affiliate links. Should have my first e-book up at the end of April and I will release a new one every month. If I have a very engaged following by the end of April, then I am going to test a "pay what you want" system for my e-books and see if generosity pays off. If I don't get a paying customer then I will acquire another email address from them and hopefully have a future customer in my email list.

To be 100% honest though, I don't want my site to be so focused on making money quickly. I am much more concerned with sharing quality content, capturing email subscribers, and building trust with readers - as that will bring way more profit down the line.

    Expenses so far:
    Hosting: $60 for the year
    Mailchimp: $10/mo
    Soundcloud: $7/mo

    Plans to Grow
    - Reddit
    - Forum Posting (in my niche)
    - Doing challenges with my subscribers
    - Messaging on Soundcloud
    - Instagram using FollowLiker
    - A lot of potential to grow organically

Indeed. Going the whitehat way pays of the long run. No doubt about it. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you! I will keep you all updated. Currently creating a ton of content for all my subscribers so they have stuff to look at on my site. Creating it myself too because with white hat you actually need good content and I don't have enough money to pay people for good content quite yet.

I used Reddit to initially get my subscribers up to somewhere to start. Basically made a post in a subreddit in my niche acting like I was someone else who found this great site with content and then posted the link. First post got me 32 subscribers for something that took me literally like 2 minutes to write.

Gonna keep doing this with content that I create and release.

    Day 3 Update:

Been kind of turning my focus towards content creation still. My main content is actually similar to a journey thread here on BHW where I update my subscribers where I am at on my music journey and how I am getting new fans. This takes a lot of time because not only do I have to work on my music and put in the work to grow my fanbase, I also have to write a post every day about it.

Here are my Mailchimp subscriber statistics:
    bhwjourney1.jpg

Excited about having 32 people opt-in so far. Kinda bummed that the click rate on the email is only 56% on the very first email though, but I didn't know what to expect prior. Wondering if my email is sending to spam folders because there is a download link in the first email. Industry avg for clicks is 2.9% though so I imagine that getting lower as I grow my site. I want to keep this as high as possible though so I am shooting for 25%!

All of these subscribers come from day 1. To get these subscribers I used the reddit method i mentioned above and posted on forums with my signature having a good offer to click and opt-in on my site.
