I have found that its tough getting a comment approved if i put an actual anchor in as my name.. It obviously looks like spam.

It stands a much higher rate of being approved if i put an actual name in.

Is it even worth a damn if i have crappy anchors(names)?

Think about it this way. If you get these without the anchor text, then you get links with the anchor text, the links without it are still going to help, not make the other ones count less.

Nowadays it's even better that most of your anchors are other than your keywords.

Use your name. You get the link, you get the traffic, you get the networking.

You can build a few links with anchors elsewhere.

I use a real name (not an anchor text) and place my naked URL in the body. I started getting most of my comments approved this way. Don't look spammy and write a decent comment and it may land you some extra visitors too.

This I can vouch for. Get a non-spammy comment with a link up, since an un-approved comment does you no good.

Looking at blog commenting as a means just to get a link in the name field is the wrong way to look at it.

See it as a means to network, become known to the bloggers in your niche AND drive direct and targeted traffic to your site when it's possible to put a clickable link within your comment back to your site.

I have tons of prominent blogs in my niche added to an RSS feed. I visit any new posts every day and comment. Some days all I do is comment and reach out to the blogger or his audience without any links.

Other days where relevant I will drop a link to a similar or opposing piece of content on my blog and because I've already built a relationship with the blogger they'll let the link stand and I can find hundreds of visitors coming over to my site instantly.

As mentioned before its useful for networking, build a relationship with the blog owners that you comment on and they will be more inclined to accept later on when you ask them to let you guest post :p

Comments with your name as the anchor look more natural to G anyway.

Just make sure with your other techniques you're building links with your target anchors
