We'd like to put on a little essay contest here among the BlackHatWorld massive. As prizes, we will be giving away (1) copy of our newest products, both of which will be publicly released by December 31st. First place gets first choice, runner-up gets whatever is left. We haven't decided on pricing yet, but please believe that either product will be well worth the time it takes to write an essay. :)

The topic of the essay is:
What Black Hat Means To Me

All essays must be posted here in this thread. Only one revision allowed, so please put some thought into this. No length requirements or other rules. We will select our favorite 5 essays and then allow the crowd to choose first and second place.

We will also be asking other members of the BHW collective to contribute prizes to the winner and runners-up (is that even a word?). Anyone who would like to contribute a prize, please contact me privately.

The winner will receive their choice of products as well as have their essay, accredited to them with a link of their choosing posted on blackhatzen's blog.

Seasons greetings!

So is the essay deadline on December 31st? Just clarifying

Is this still on? Since no one has taken part and I've got an essay written.

Great idea for a contest OSH. Should get you some good publicity for the new tool as well. I hesitate to submit early, as some of the rewriters may go to work and blow me away with my own essay, but I fear that if I don't do it now that I'll forget. And that would suck. With that out of the way, here is my entry into the essay contest:

What Black Hat Means To Me. There really isn't a single thing that Black Hat means to me. It encompasses such a large, diverse part of life that it's really hard to pin down. You can Black Hat market to make money on the Internet and Black Hat your way into a discount at your local stores. You can Black Hat at a car dealership and land a smoking deal on your new ride. Hell, I did a bit of Black Hatting when looking for a house to get the prices down a bit. With all that being said, I've boiled down what Black Hat means to me to three things: security, knowledge, and freedom. This essay should help explain my reasoning behind these terms and how Black Hat can help provide them.

Security. Now I don't mean the "are you sure the back door is locked" kind of security, I'm really thinking more along the lines of "wow I can take some time off" security. Maybe even something like "the furnace at the house went our & we can fix it" kind of security. Sometimes even "wow, there is no debt & I can take a month off" security. It means have the financial resources available for me to live a comfortable, moderate life without sweating the small things. The ability to make choices (even smaller ones) without necessarily having to consider the bank account first. If there is a mountain bike race coming up a few states away, I'd like to decide a day or so ahead to pack my bike and go race. Not 3-4 months in advance to be sure I can cover all the travel expenses. I'd like to buy a set of Axis Oldskool rims for my Scion with out going "damn, that's 2 mortgage payments". I'd like to grab a cabin with the wife for the weekend at our favorite riding spot without wondering if I'll need to cut back somewhere else before the 1st rolls around. I'd like to start restoring my 1969 VW Beetle without wincing at the price of a new tool I need to get started. Now I don't consider myself poor by any means, and don't really have an insatiable desire to be rich. It would be nice, but security is more important than money. Black Hat can give this security to me. It can provide a way to earn the extra money to have some more time off. If the numbers from some BHW members are legit, it can give me a way to replace the furnace. It could pay for 1 HELL of a mountain biking trip. This is security and Black Hat can provide it.

Knowledge. Learning new things is exciting. Since the world of Black Hat is ever changing and moving ahead at what seems like warp speed, there is always new knowledge to aquire. It seems like the hottest burning niches don't stay around long. It takes real knowledge to exploit this. It seems an awful lot like the real 'hacker' mentality; something that while I'm not necessarily skilled in (as far as computers, Internet, & marketing go) it tremendously intriguing. You're always pushing the envelope. You're always trying to find a way to make the system work for you. You're putting a new twist on a CPA offer. You're figuring out how to drive traffic to a new niche. In my life, I might be finding a way to rig up something on the above mentioned 1969 VW Beetle to get home from a swap meet; that takes knowledge. Car knowledge. Mechanical hacking skills. Knowing how to pilot a mountain bike down a rocky, root infested trail at 30+ MPH takes knowledge. Without, you get hurt. Just like trying to Black Hat without knowledge is dangerous. Half my thrill in living is learning new things. Black Hat feeds this thrill. There is always something new to read, learn, implement, or experiment with. This is knowledge and Black Hat can provide it.

Freedom. I've got a feeling that this phrase will really be overused in several of the essays. There is a good reason for that. I'll try and make mine worth reading. Life is hard sometimes. There are always constraints on your time, and there is always something pulling you in one direction or another. These things sap away your precious freedom. I know several people who've had their freedom taken by drugs & alcohol. A few that have lost it due to gambling. Even a few that have lost it due to debt. Now these folks aren't locked up in jail, but they might as well be as they lack freedom. Sure, they can make their on decisions to a point. But it's driven by one thing. Getting some cash to buy the next hit. Or to buy the next round. Maybe it's to spin that roulette wheel one more time, or make another credit card payment so they can hit the mall. Maybe they have to spend all their time slaving at a job they hate just to maintain a roof over their head. That saps your freedom too. That's a pretty sad way to live, and Black Hat can prevent me from ending up that way. It can provide me with the free time to do what I want, the directional freedom to do my own thing, and the financial freedom to provide for my family. If I need a day off work to take one of my cats (or dogs) to the vet, it's cool as I have time. No worries about the bill, as I've got money. This is freedom, and Black Hat can provide it.

As you can see, Black Hat means a wide variety of things to me. Everytime I sit down and think about it, there is always another twist on this. I'm always finding ways to Black Hat things in my life. Life Hacks. This is great. It provides the freedom, knowledge, and security I crave. I can have the security to not worry from day to day. I can have the knowledge to share with others, and I can have the freedom to make my own choices. This is what Black Hat means to me

Maybe this story can explain it better:

Here`s John: His passion isn`t to simply make money but provide a worthy service that people will love.

The problem John has it`s that he doesn`t have enough money to advertize his business. After all, if people would hear about his business, they would become happy loyal customers that will make him rich. He craves exposure. He wants to make a living and support his family by doing what he loves. His spirit is young and full of energy. He starts writing articles, submitting to directories, writing press releases. Things are starting to pick up :). He gets his first few visitors and he is really happy. His family is more supportive now. He is really happy he doesn`t have to work for somebody else. Or does he?

6 weeks after..it happens..the search engines change their algorythms. He was counting on g00gle to bring him visitors! He`s now on page 30 for his main phrase. "Why did g00gle did this to me? I thought G00gle cared about my business! He said so!"

The days go by and he has no clue yet on how to regain his rankings. He must do it..He must pay the search engines for his rankings. He cant believe that he fed the search engines with fresh good content, he used all the tricks in the book and he STILL has to pay for his rankings.

Then...the epiphany... "maybe g00gle doesn`t care for me. Maybe the article directories gladly accept my articles only to make money from adsense. If not, then why doesn`t EZA let me use affiliate links in my articles?"

The young boy rushes to marketing forums to discuss the matter but to no avail. People only tell him what he got sick of hearing all his life : "Have patience and everything will be alright!". "No,it`s not alright", he says to himself,"everybody is making money off my back and I get nothing!"

He looks around, the revelation continues.. He glances over his shoulder, there`s nobody there... He reads the text on his monitor carefully.. A new mentality is born..

Blackhat. What just sprung to mind? eWhoring? Cookie Stuffing? To me, Blackhat is so much more: I don't see it simply as a road to riches, but as a place where I can beat the system of CPA networks and companies. Being only a teenager, I'm rebellious in nature and so I enjoy bending the ToS of the networks and more importantly - getting away with it. Blackhat is also (obviously) a good way of getting large amount of money in a short amount of time.

Instead of grinding mobs for the next epic tier 4 gear in World of Warcraft like some people I know, I would much rather go do something as low as eWhoring (yes, I hate the game that much) and wait for the check to arrive in my letter box. The fact that I can do something like that and get away with it is a lot more fun than raiding instances or whatever they do in WoW. I also get paid for it, as opposed to them have to spend quite a bit of money each month just to play the game. I also feel a sense of achievement when receiving checks from multimillion dollar companies who don't have a clue that I've been cheating them off a few grand each month, especially companies like eBay which treat their customers like dirt in the first place.

Bending rules goes hand-in-hand with me beating the system. I feel a sense of adrenaline whenever I post an eBay auction with my cookie stuffing code or spam a major social networking site. Not only is this fun, but it encourages you to think out of the box instead of being Whitehat where all you do is build a certain number of links to a certain website that has Adsense on it, which is boring and doesn't require any innovative thinking. Instead, you will spam with XRumer, AutoPligg and use other Blackhat techniques to make a site rank a lot higher than your competitors allowing you to have an edge that they don't have.

Blackhat methods allow me to make a substantial amount of money, quickly. Although I don't always do Blackhat just for the money, an extra thousand dollars in my bank doesn't hurt, especially in a recession like this. I normally put the money into good use, like investing into a couple of my Whitehat ventures; I've even donated to a charity earlier this year. I still have the receipt in my drawer and it makes me feel good inside every time I look at it - like being a poorer version of Bill Gates. Being a kid, I don't have bills to pay like most people here so I always spend a bit on myself and my friends here and there, especially when I have some cash and don't know what to do with it.

Blackhat has opened up a world of opportunities for me as well as an endless stream of profits. With Blackhat, I can ‘get back' at the rich, overpriced consumer services online and get paid for it. Blackhat: the best thing since sliced bread ;)

Ok ok, the ending was kinda cheesy, but hey :p

there's some good essays here. so far I like aliskorn's the best. the ending made me smile.

I have an essay but I'm waiting til tomorrow to post. :)

I'll be setting aside some time on New Year's Day to read everyone's essays, so please post 'em up! Everyone's looks great so far.

When I place the Black Hat upon my head, what it means to me is excelling-- getting what I want. It's an expression of how I live life. It's playing the same game everyone else does, but taking a good look at the rules and trying to get ahead of them by understanding and bending them instead of bending around them. It's learning and discovering the tricks of not only internet marketing, but life. Black Hat is seeing the game for what it is-- a game. It's understanding that the goal is not the game-- the game is the means to whatever it is you want. Black Hat is achieving that goal by subverting the standards of rule and play.

I'll sweeten the pot a little bit:
3rd and 4th place will get a $200 discount off of our Meta-Marketing: Volume 2 method, bringing the price down to $150.00!

Oh...I see upcoming shake "sphere's" and Britney "Spears" from thsi thread best of luck guys...:aliskorn: is one good storyteller I like the sarcasm(If I got it correct )..

Hahahaha, would I fit the definition of your "upcoming shake "sphere's" and Britney "Spears" group?

What is the meaning of Black Hat to me?

Besides being the hat of choice for one of my greatest idols, The Monopoly Guy, it is also a new way of thinking I've found during this very same year. I started IM a couple of years ago in a very small scale..free blogs, free sites, free hosting - trying to push some crazy cb product with no luck. Then I bought hosting and started my first real website. I was fascinated when I saw my first AdSense click. Don't remember how much was it, maybe 20 cents or something like that. But the point being that was when I was sold to making money in Internet - even for sooo small money. Did some heavy work for that site, promoted it, added high end affiliate products - and boy was I amazed when I got my first 40$ commission notification for a diet product! But the hours for this one sale were absolutely countless..hourly salary? Maybe 1$. I started to lose my hope for this thing..and I became one of these do-nothing, read-forums-all-day-long guys. Yeah, warriorforum, dp..

Black Hat changed all this for me. Like all of us here, one day I stumbled upon BHW and the whole idea of blackhatting. And was that a day! I was at work, and didn't work on my 9-5 stuff that day at all. I was thunderstruck by Black Hat. People talking about nifty ways earning 100$ a day, which I guess is the most popular phrase in this forum..ways that looked like they could actually work! So, for a couple of hours of work, I might be wiping floors with all the work I'd done previously online. I was sold to Black Hat methods that very same day..reading (again) for countless of hours this forum, starting to see which of you guys have super contributions here and going through all the good threads started by you. Genius stuff. Made me feel pretty stupid about reading so much of those shitty forums before. I never was into buying e-books, but I read them a lot also (Google with filetype: pdf does miracles). And just a couple of the countless Black Hat methods here beat pretty much all of them 100-0. Enough said, I guess. Made me hate those e-book scammers quite a lot, even though only one of them got my 49$! So, that day I dropped spending time on finding e-books and spending my day reading other forums. I found the blogs of some of the top blackhatters here and found Black Hat marketing to be my thing online. Took action on simple methods here, and saw them bringing in the visitors and money. Nothing sensational or making me a millionaire, but still so much more effective than my other ventures! Black Hat is like a shortcut to me.

Black Hat is not my whole life. No no no. I have job mates, good friends and a warm family. Black Hat and fellow blackhatters are to me like my very best personal buddies in Internet. I don't brag to my everyday friends about any of these darker methods I'm practicing online - they got hard time understanding even the white ones.. I have some "proper" sites and can try to talk to them about AdSense or normal affiliate commissions. Black Hat is my own entertainment channel and a hobby that makes me extra $$. Pretty sweet, right? It's a bucketload of fun. Whatever you do in life should be somehow fun - otherwise you'll get bored of it and quit unless it's absolutely necessary to do it. Blackhatting doesn't mean to me being an online asshole - you don't need to outright scam people in order to make good $$ from it. If I'm having an idle moment, I find myself reading about BH right here at BHW much rather than watching some stupid ass reality tv shows and munching popcorn. I am yet to make my big breakthrough in blackhatting, but with the help of you guys and girls here and a bit of luck, I'm devoted to do it. Black Hat is a stimulant to my brains and this very forum is one hell of an arena to meet clever and interesting people online and to join the Black Hat party. And that sure is a party you shouldn't miss!

You an online doormat? Bring on the Black Hat!

Ok, that last one was a bit lame :p Happy new year everyone!
