My SEOquake bar gives an Alexa rank of 999 to Blackhatworld. Just thought that was worth mentioning.

Things you post here will be read by many.

I suppose it's a two sided affair. You can help a lot of people, but at the same time, new ideas will be saturated fast.

Roll discussion on how Alexa rank is inaccurate and meaningless :)

SO, freethetv - and by the way I am by no means trying to suggest Alexa rank is the be all and end all - where do you think BHW is in terms or popularity?

    5000?

    10,000?

    500?

How inaccurate is Alexa rank - can it serve as a general guide or should it be discarded completely?

I don't think Alexa rank is important for any of my money making schemes. But I am interested in it.

    999 . . . O-o-o-o-o-o! . . . That is 666 upside down. Could it be an omen? . . . Probably not.

I have the Alexa Rank bar on my firefox aswell.

If you go to the alexa site itself, it states it's on 993rd. HA!
Also in there, you can see the sites linking to BHW, and one of them is this one:
    hxxp://209.85.175.104/trends/hottrends?q=imagefap+like+sites&date=2008-11-18&sa=X
Just wonder in what way BHW relates to ImageFap  ...

Have no ideia how Alexa rank is calculated... I assume it's a mix between the number of unique visitors a day, amount of time spent and links to the site itself? I wouldn't think BHW has the most amount of unique visitors, or incoming links, it's probably the amount of time each user spends in here that ranks this high.

Deviantart, on the other hand, has all of the three factors stated above in abundancy... maybe that's why is on the top 100

:D I can't stand alexa and the owner should be shot...... that said, i once had a crappy merchant deny me cuz my alexa ranking was not suitable and when I looked at theirs it was like 1,249,000 so i of course emailed back with mines better than yours....they accepted me and then I dumped them for having a low alexa score.... :D

If anything it's bad and good news.

Good news that there will be more sales in the BST section, and more programs created for blackhat needs.

Bad news that the conventional methods will be saturated. However, you gotta be thankful for lazy people.

    Actually you're both wrong.

Alexa receives a stastically significant amount of data for sites with rankings 100,000 and lower. They have a level of significance of 5%.

This means the rankings are actually very accurate for a site like BHW. It doesn't matter that stats are only gathered from people with the toolbar installed if the site ranks 100,000 or lower.

the good news is, almost everyone of us here use the alexa toolbar, that's why we;re enflating the rankings.
