Okay there seem to be many people that don't seem to understand what blackhat is.....

they probably don't even understand whitehat if im honest

and don't know the boundaries between blackhat, whitehat and a plain old scammer.

so people i challenge you to tell everyone what your ideas on these 3 things are

    blackhat?
    whitehat?
    scammer?

if you want to go one step further then explain greyhat too :)

Nope... i just saw a thread about someone being scammed.... and some idiot replied with "youve just been blackhatted"

Im sure there are other people that confuse them as the same thing too so its to set the records straight.

Heck i could still be slightly wrong anyhow.

I have noticed the same...those who have heard of blackhat in passing immediately think hacker/scammer. They know so little...

Whitehat - What everyone else does. Complete adherence to TOS, etc of a site/offers. Always playing by the rules.
Blackhat - Pushing the limits. Breaking TOS, but not doing things that are illegal. Blackhat is uncomfortable for many because they feel it's the "wrong" thing to do.
Scamming - Stealing, cheating and doing illegal things like breaking into accounts, stealing money, etc.

This is a very serious issue Lewi has mentioned here, because i see a lot of people here now consider outright theft to be part of what blackhat is all about...WRONG. I have also just seen the thread Lewi spoke of and that is a criminal activity not blackhat marketing.

I don't care how people make their money and I don't like labels. What people need to do is adapt to the culture of a forum, and know what is acceptable and what is not in a certain online community. Lets say, hypothetically, you do whatever it takes to earn. Marketing, scamming, hacking, whatever...I'm not judging you. This forum is about marketing. Don't come in here and talk about fraud, carding, identity theft, ect. There are other forums for that. Another thing is, people need to know to not shit where they eat. If you're using this forum for the great marketing resource that it is, you can't be running a scamming gig on the side. Learn to separate your 'work', take that shit somewhere else. It's not about clearly defined labels, its about having logical sense of what a certain community's moral limits are.

PS: Off topic, but lewi, where in Kazakstan you from?

blackhat?black hat is the villain or bad guy, especially in a western movie in which such a character would wear a black hat in contrast to the hero's white hat. The phrase is often used figuratively, especially in computing slang, where it refers to a hacker that breaks into networks or computers, or creates computer viruses.
blackhat seo ? the terms black hat and white hat have been applied to the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industry. Black hat SEO tactics, also called spamdexing, attempt to redirect search results to particular target pages in a fashion that is against the search engines' terms of service, whereas white hat methods are generally approved by the search engines

Urrrm im afraid im not from kazakstan... my subname quotes a phrase by 'borat' the comedian guy who wears the lovely bright green swimming costume. Im actually in the land of frogs at the moment (oh and for you british people,to the french you are called 'roast beef' now that's one to use next time your on a date hey! lol)

Keeping on track though im glad to see im not alone in noticing this and it does need to be set straight.... problem is alot of people here can actually hack and do scam etc and know about these things and some topics and posts (even ones by me sometimes) are about illegal things too (they are obviously illegal lol).

xbox360gurl70s - 'above the law' urrrrrm nice way to put it ha ha!

whitehat = what absolutely NOBODY is doing ... after all, purposely obtaining a back link from another site to benefit SEO is against most SE's TOS

greyhat = what most of those who claim they wear ONLY a white hat actually are

blackhat = everybody else pretty much has this covered well and something that plenty of people wearing a grey hat are doing and not even realizing it.

Whitehat - plays by the rules - gets things done but generally in a much longer space of time that blackhat.

Greyhat - not afraid to break the rules to make bank, aware of certain unethical tactics to enhance their business/method

Blackhat - getting to the other side of the bridge in generally a much shorter space of time. Not afraid to break the rules/laws & screw another over to make bank [sad but true]

Some definitions posted here are skewed and misleading, I urge new members not to take most of the definitions here seriously, hopefully this is just for pleasurable fun, too much annoying crap lately makes you think some people take these things seriously. Blackhat, at least as per discussions on this forum, isn't about breaking real-world laws nor scamming anyone ;) If required to put it in summary, or one word, I would say: automation. The definition elsewhere may be different.

    O Rly?

ewhoring, CPA, PPI, ect = screwing another or CPA networks to make $$$
CSing = screwing ebay to make $$$
autoblogging, ect = screwing google to make $$$
any kind of spamming, opening paypal accounts in different names, not paying taxes, ect = breaking laws

How many people here do one or more of the above?
