Just got a pretty funny call. Complete cold call from a SEO company...they are fairly large...rank high on google, ads everywhere. The guy starts going into his pitch saying that they are 100% "White Hat" and all the links that they build are high quality and google approves what they do. LOL. I laughed and asked for some sort of documentation showing that their link building methods are "google approved" lol...he stated that they couldn't release that information haha

Then I asked him to tell me what "Black Hat" was and how their "Google approved White Hat" link building was different. He then stated that google defines spammy links as black hat but their links that they build are certified white hat links. It was hard not to laugh at this point...so I put him on hold...waited 5 min...came back...then said "oops, hold one"....did this for about 20 min between work....then I felt bad and picked back up and said "not interested" lol

Maybe I shouldn't have had the big Red Bull this morning hahaha

But seriously..."Google approved white hat links" - great entertainment for the day

Salesmen are salesmen, you have to remember that. There where times back when I worked for a digital agency and I would overhear our salesman talking about the advantages of a custom built CMS over open source ones and every time he would say something completely inaccurate I would get a look on my face and use hand signals to tell him to get off the subject.

That is funny, but you have to remember that these people think that everyone who owns a website, has no idea how to do proper SEO. The funnier part is that 95% of the time they are right, website owners don't know what to do when it comes to SEO.

i got one the other day, 15 directory submissions for $997. I told them I only dealt with quality companies, and I know good links are worth $1000 each, so keep his cheap SEO.'

I swear he was sputtering when I hung up.

Dude their job is to sell you their services. Its not their fault. Most of the companies don't hire high quality sales mans that's the reason they make these type of funny comments :)

    You have to laugh!
This is exactly the sort of shitspeak and crudtalk that those shysters at SEOmoz talk about.

    Great find

(Incidentaly, why are there more established members complaining about their site being hammered by Google on MOZ than their are here? Answer seems pretty frikking obvious to me)

Thanks given for my mornings chuckle.

If they do it it means that they must convert some customers.. Man.. $1K for 15 directory submissions.. If he ever closed that sale, thats pretty good, what.. paid $100 / minute.

EVEN BETTER!!!! Yesterday we get a call from a "Google Places Certified Specialist" lol...usually i do not take the calls but for some reason I picked up the phone because they were spoofing the called ID name - it came up "Google Specialist" - so I just knew I had to take this one ;)

Anyway he begins to tell me "how important it is to be the #1 listing on places." - I said "oh yeah I agree 100%"

Then he gets all wet in the pants thinking he will get a sale....and then tells me for a very affordable $1999 they can begin to create and optimize a google place page for me. I couldn't stop laughing.

#1) We are already #1 on places lol (he obviously didn't do his homework)
#2) $1999 - are people really paying this?!?!?! It took us 10 min to set ours up, simply did some good keywords...made sure the address was listed exactly like it is on our business page, verified the address via their postcard, etc - and haven't moved from #1.

I didn't tell him we already were #1 - alerting him to the need to do research before pitching an affordable $1999 sale would be helping him out too much haha

It is a crazy world out there haha
