Do average people (I'm not sure that is a term I have seen in the past but I'm Ok with it) buy Crypto?

Those I have encountered IRL have no crypto clue as to what is happening.

I'm probably going to cash out today... I enjoyed the ride, and the gamble (I do not see Crypto as an investment, but as a gamble) made me some nice cash and I could use a new pair of shoes.

My "average" friends, either
1. see crypto as a scam
2. see crypto as an investment (lol) or gamble

yes, it will be necessary to drain all your bitcoins. If it had fallen by 5k, then the economy would probably have collapsed
