Let's say I'm Pete with Pete's Plumbing. I want to rank my main Wordpress site for the keyword Plumbing.

I also want to run business across the country like a franchise (Pete's Plumbing Seattle, Pete's Plumbing Denver, Pete's Plumbing Dallas, etc...). I would create these additional Wordpress sites with the same Theme as my main site optimizing for geographic keywords (plumbing seattle, plumbing denver, plumbing dallas, etc...).

All I want to do is add one link to my main site from the homepage of these geo sites with the anchor text Plumbing.

Is this considered a blog network with a big foot print or good business? I want to avoid using a different CMS for each site if possible. I already have them on seperate C-class IP's.

Thank you for any help you can provide...

Please let me know if I need to clarify my question. I'm in a little over my head to be honest with you.

    Tough to say really.
I think if you did real quality sites, they would be okay with it. But if it just looks like some crap spam sites trying to boost the main site, they'll probably penalize you.
There's a chance you could get penalized either way though.

If you plan to have a chain of "plumbing sites" you should only have one main site. does the marriot have a different website for each city? no of course not

You will benefit more having one money site and creating a page for each city within that site. you will gain more authority and when people link to your site your entire site will benefit.

Thank you. The problem I am having with making one large site is when it comes to the Goog Places listing. I can rank well organic but the Places map is still on top for a service industry search like plumber.

Goog has already penalized me for using sub-domains for my local Places listings. Any other ideas?

Can you buy the domain you want (to list in Google Places), and then use a 301 redirect to send them to a sub-page on your main site...?

Each of your sites needs to be stand alone. Meaning, a different IP, different SOA if they are not private, totally different content and altogether different design layout.

*Also, they should NEVER be interlinked in any, shape, form or fashion.

Then, you need to build a BL network that serves to pass on link juice, authority and PR to your main sites. Or, you can use some of the HPBL networks. But honestly, you will get better mileage building your own network that you control.

The reality is, quite a few of the HPBL networks are not worth the monthly admission for what they provide versus you building your own network.

I have a private network I have been building and I want to make sure I understand everything I am doing and make sure I am protected.

    I have 100 or so sites;
    all have unique IP's
    all have unique DNS
    all have unique SOA
    all have unique wordpress themes
    all have unique content

In very limited situations if one of the sites loses some PR I may link a higher PR site to it, but only 1 way links. So site 65 links to site 57 or some variation of that.

Right now I have all of them linking to 1 or more of the money sites, so site 54 links to site 1,2,3 and 4 (1-4 are the money sites.) Sites 1-4 do not link to each other.

It is not out of the question for me to build individual networks of 100 sites for each of the 4 money sites. But if all their details, IP, DNS, theme, content are unique - what risk am I running by linking all the network sites to each of the 4 money sites?

Any and all feed back would be appreciated.

Don't think so. but what is the necessity to do this that way? why don't you keep one money site and make pages for each city/ state you want. you can do it whenever you want. Google will never ask anything for doing this ;)
