    What's up guys,

I've been a long time lurker and I finally decided today is the day I want to stop reading and start doing.

A few months ago I discovered freelance writing and since then I've grown my income to anywhere between $600-$1000 per month. I accomplished this using Fiverr and I believe if I was a native English speaker I could be earning a lot more from my writing.

I'm from Poland and live in the north of the country in a small city called Gdansk. The average person here only earns around $700 per month and I've been able to have an OK life and save some money with my current earnings. The problem is that I know that what I earn is peanuts on the grand scale and I've seen many different people, including those I work for, earn a lot more on a monthly basis.

Most of the writing I do is for affiliate websites and blogs and I decided I am going to start writing for myself rather than for other people. I've read plenty of the journeys here and I've taken pages and pages of notes so I believe I have the proper education and knowledge to eventually earn for myself. I know I'm not going to become a millionaire overnight but I believe if I put in the effort that it's impossible for me to fail .

My long term goal is to earn $100 per day. This is about $3000 every month and that means I could save a few thousand while still having more than enough to live on. I'm not looking to buy anything flashy or nice things I just want to keep putting money away so I can travel while I'm young and retire early.

I've never made my own website or earned anything online from affiliates or anything related to that but today is the first day I will try. Here's what I hope to accomplish tonight:

    - Go through Amazon and make a list of what products I'm interested in and would like to sell/promote
    - Do some keyword research on Google Keyword tool for "buying" keywords and find one to target
    - Set up a website and order some hosting
    - Add 1 article to my site

That is all for today. I hope that by creating this journey I'll be able to stay accountable for my actions as well as track my progress. I hope you will find this interesting and follow along during my failures and successes.

    All the best,

    Big Bobby

Just look at the 2 first pages of the journey section and you'll see
    - more than 60% of thread started in the week
    - 30% of thread bumped from nowhere where the OP is gone and dead for a while.
    - 10% of thread actually alive.

    Anyway. Good luck OP.

Thank you. Let's hope I can make it to the top 10%! Every time I feel like quitting I'll come back to this comment and remind myself not to be another wasted statistic.

    Update #1

Last night I found which area of Amazon products I'm interested in selling and that there is a niche online for. I won't go into too much detail but the products are in the Outdoor section and cost between $100 and $400 with a ton of additional accessories.

I figured out hosting and got a 3 year plan with Blue host. It came with a free domain and rather than target something and limit my options I went with something brandAble. It will be easier to grow the site into an authority if the demand Is there.
So I made the domain and it took me an hour to "point" it to my host. Confusing but anyways now it's online. Woohoo!

I decided to go with a static front page so I wrote a 2100 word general article. I didn't target any keywords yet. Oh and the best buying key words I found total about 20k monthly searches. There are plenty of long ones but these had the least competition in the top 10 google. They are all "best" keyword and keyword "review" ones.

Today I'm going to learn more about on page SEO and write 4 more articles. 2 general and 2 review. Aiming for 1k minimum each.

    That's it for now!

I wish you the best of luck for your journey.

One thing I noticed that you bought 3 years plan of hosting. They offer free domain.
I've nothing bad or complain about your current hosting provider that you're bought, but I'd recommend to not buy the hosting plan for longer that 3 months each. You'll lose a great amount of the rest period when something gone wrong and want to move.
In addition, even free domain name is good, but using the same, hosting & domain, provided by hosting provider is not a good choice.

Anyways, those are just my suggestion as I've experienced bad thing about this kind of situation.

P.S: Good for you that you could write your content by yourself; it's a good plus!

Great to see you reaching to develop new skills and start making more money online. Progress is most challenging in the beginning, so give it some time and keep putting forth the same or greater level of effort, and your income will grow from there. I'm really interested to see your growth in the Amazon models, and wish you a lot of success. Keep us posted.

    Hey guys,

So today I spent a few hours doing some on-page SEO research. Took a bunch of notes of course and I made some changes to my website and added a few plugins.

I signed up for Google Webmaster Tools and verified my site on there.

I wrote 4 articles totalling 7k words. 2 of them were general articles about the niche and the other 2 were strict reviews. I posted 1 of them and I have the other 3 posting over the next couple of days. I don't plan on adding any affiliates links until I start seeing some traffic and I expect that won't be for a few weeks probably.

Right now i'm using a free theme but I spent some time looking through premium ones. Is there a difference in SEO if you buy one from Wordpress vs. themeforest or something like that? There were quite a few good ones for around thirty dollars that I liked but I'm going to do a bit more searching before I decide on one.

I also used the Google Keyword Tool to add to my list of keywords I want to target. I picked probably 30 keywords between 100 and 3000 monthly searches.

For ranking better in Google I know I have to build backlinks so i was looking at relevant sites in my niche and wondering who I would ask for a backlink. Do you just email the website owner, tell them about your site, and ask for a backlink? I'm not going to do this until I have 20 posts or so but I'm just wondering.

Also, for blog comments, do you add the exact URL in the "website" part or just the general domain?

Unfortunately when I was browsing through Google Webmaster tools I got 2 errors about my sitemap and I think it's one of the plugins causing it. It's late now so I'm going to fix that tomorrow morning.

My goal for tomorrow is to write 4 or 5 more articles of at least 1k words each. I'll probably write all "review" or "best" articles but I'm not sure yet.

According to Google everything is indexed so far. Is there an easy way to tell what page of Google I'm actually ranking on?

    Ok, that's all for now!

    Hey guys,

I spent nearly 2 hours today trying to fix the Sitemap error on Webmaster Tools to no avail.

Is it something I should be worried about? When I click through to my sitemap xml everything seems to be in order.

Even when I resubmit/test sitemap it says that no errors were found.

On the sitemap page though it says there's a "General HTTP Error: 404 Not Found". I've Googled it and applied everything I found out but the error is still there. Any suggestions?

I decided to go with Serpbook to track my keywords. I paid for the 25 keyword monthly cost and if I need more I'll upgrade my version.

The keywords I put in are all in the top 100 so far except for my best keyword. It's definitely indexed in Google and is on position 11 for Bing but isn't showing anywhere on Serpbook. It's just a (-) mark.

I'm getting tired of using Google Keyword Tool since it only shows very few results and it doesn't have the best functionality. I'm going to do some research and see what some of the best paid alternatives are.

I wrote 3 reviews today all more than 1200 words. I'll definitely write another one later or maybe two. They only take me 30 mins to write but another 15 minutes to format, edit, and add the photos on Wordpress.

Webmaster Tools isn't showing any traffic but Wordpress Stats shows I have some views. Those are probably just me checking my site on my different devices though.

Also the thumbnails on my site are showing a bit stretched out so I'm going to try to find what the problem is there.

    Hey guys,

I'm moving forward with the content. I'm going to write 5 different reviews/articles today and continue to add them to the site. I have 11 pages of content now so I'm going to start adding a new article every other day now.

After I finish the writing I'm going to work on some blog comments and make a list of other sites/blogs I plan to reach out to for a link.

I have so many keywords now that it shouldn't be a problem for me to find topics to write about. I'm not sure how many review articles / general articles I should add but I'm hoping once I get to 50 or so that I'll start to see some traffic and hopefully some Amazon conversions.

Just by getting the site set up and adding content I've learned quite a lot and now it's a matter of practicing the best SEO methods and attempting to rank as high as possible. I think once I have the 50 articles/reviews on the site I'll either start another site or grow the current one into an authority type one. I'm not really sure.

So far I still really have no idea the best way to get traffic and build backlinks but thank God for Google and BHW or else I would be more confused than I am right now.

I'm open to suggestions/comments so if there's anything you want to critique about my journey so far I welcome any help I can get.

Oh and I noticed someone mentioned that it was a mistake to order my hosting for 3 years. The only reason I did was to take advantage of the monthly price and that I could pay it all upfront. If I notice it becomes a problem I'll just grab another hosting provider. In IM you definitely need a hosting so I consider that a necessary expense.
