First of all i'm posting after a mighty long time. It feels good to be back.
We'll I have a passion for sneakers and was thinking about getting into the industry. I think i have everything mapped out except the act of making the shoes itself. I was wondering if there is a step my step tutorial to doing so. (note: i don't know crap about making sneakers)
I wanted to know how its done
what are the machines that are required.
Is it necessary that its going to really really expensive. (i'm looking to start this on a small basis at first)

I want to know the whole process in absolute detail.

I know this is an unusual request for bhw, but i decided if im putting this anywhere its gonna be bhw!!!

Hey great post. I was thinking of opening a petrol(gas) station. Like you I think I have it all mapped out, I was just wondering how do you know where to build your station so there is guaranteed Fuel underneath ?

I am not very bright so try this location Ras Tanura Refinery - Saudi Arabia (includes a Crude Distillation Unit, a Gas Condensate Unit, a hydrocracker, and catalytic reforming.

Oh yeah for sneakers that is easy, go to any of the makers in Southern China and they will run off a few thousand pairs with your logo on but you will have to meet the factory costs...

+1 for kickstarter. It's going to be an expensive business to start, so you might as well get some interest and funding first. I'd recommend also going to at least tour a shoe making facility in mexico or asia to get an insight as to what goes on.

You might be able to find some documentaries on youtube. Check out toms shoes and see how they do it. Maybe look at some wahm blogs that cover home making goods. Try to figure out what program they use to design... maybe try your hand at creating some mockups in photoshop or something to see if you even have a knack for it.

I'm a sneaker enthusiast also not a sneakerhead nowadays it doesn't mean anything but that not the point. If you want to make sneakers you'll have to first make a prototype, most of the brands nowadays don't make them in US or EU but in Asia or shit like this. First of all you should making design and then find someone to produce a prototype try to go to Showroom like the Bread& Butter to find suppliers, show your stuff and everything

I like this thread. Hand made shoes(your shoes better be made by hand) are so classy, they last longer, and again, such class.

OP, go research. Follow that passion. Thank you for bothering to get interested to create something real.

    OP is a cool OP.

Thanks for the insights bhw. I know the thread was random but i also know bhw is one of the coolest places on the web.
anyway, i think contracting individual manufacturers is the way to go initially. get the design(s) done, contracting makers & lastly distributing them.
I think this might be the best way ahead. any other takes on this?
