Like most people in online marketing. We start silly and work our way up the food chain. This is a very expensive exercise and most people loose their homes and cars before they make money on the internet.

What worries me is the huge gap between knowledge for those trying to grow and people scamming newbies for money.

Scamming is a very strong word, right. But what else would you call it when people promise one thing and deliver things that are next to useless being more often warn out old rubbish.

In the busness world, if I spend $100 I want to make at the very least $150. But most of the tools, lists and bobs I have purchased here are of little or no use at all.

    Example:

Proxies that are so battered they can not even be used for harvesting.
URL lists that are so old and abused that google will not index them.
Wordpress themes that are over prices and SEO useless.
Wordpress modules that are over priced, out of date and buggy at best.
Hosting on IP addresses that are so spammed in web2 ring sites that your niche never gets anywhere.
Come on the list is endless and we do not have too much time to waste on this. But you see what I am getting at, right?

Lets just make a forum site which costs $1000 per month and have done with it and keep all the threads private. :)

    Here ends my rambling.

Quadzilla had one over at seoblackhat that costed ~150/month but it really never took off. I mean, quite a few knowledgeable members, but few posts and so on.

As for newbies being scammed this is somewhat suiting:

Once upon a time there was a school for dragon slayers in china. So the young boys would go to the school for years and years preparing and learning how to slay dragons. They became fantastic at their skills they learned and soon graduated from the school. When they graduated they were prepared very well and set out to use their talent. They soon found out to their surprise that dragons dont exist. So what did they do? They went back to the school, and taught young boys how to slay dragons...

I see what you are getting. There will always be some people that will try to make a quick buck off of people in any market, not just IM.

However, one thing people fail to realize(especially in the IM market) is that things don't always go as planned, but that doesn't mean that everything is a scam.

It is a proven fact that a lot of people are just too lazy to do what it takes which is exactly why they end up losing money. They waste all their money in hopes they will get something that makes them instantly rich without them having to lift a finger. I personally have no sympathy for these people.

Anyone can make money online, and anyone can get started for around $20 or even for free. Think about that for second...what other business can you start for that low or even for free?

If people would invest $20-$30 for hosting, a domain, and an auto-responder instead of being lazy and wasting all their money, they have all the necessary tools to start to create income online for the long term.

Yes, paid tools are expensive, but you don't need them to start out. In fact, you should even consider buying any tools besides what I listed above until your business is making money AND you know how to use the tools.

There are so many people that say they have been trying to make money online for so long, have bought all the courses, but are just losing money....I admit, I was one of them which is why I can speak say all this from experience.

Here's my advice to those people:

    1. Why are you still buying things when you are not making money? Stop.

    2. Sit down and assess how much you are really doing consistently on a daily basis, and you have to be 100% honest with yourself or you won't improve. Note the word consistently. If you are consistently jumping from product to product, method to method, you will get nowhere except back to where you started.

    3. After you have honestly how much you are or are not doing, you need to next assess what you can do. Assess what resources and tools you currently have and learn how to make them work for you.

    4. Finally, create a plan of action and do it. Create one that fits around your current situation and then make sure you do it every day.

You will be surprised how far a little consistency, perseverance, and hard work will take you.

That is the sum of it all. People are lazy and have no dedication. They would rather watch TV then put effort into making something work. I have colleagues around me that try to do what I do with websites but never succeed. They say things like "I'll do it tomorrow" or "I didn't have any time this weekend" whenever I offer suggestions or criticize their efforts.

When I start a new website project, I dedicate myself. I put in hours on top of hours. I make time. This is why I've made thousands upon thousands in the past 8 months from websites. This is why my sites succeed while the millions that are created daily fail.

I agree with you, I have no sympathy for these lazy people.

One suggestion for the OP - I think you should change your title because it sounds like you are implying that BHW is a place for scammers.

Sad but oh so true among all webmasters. I would like to add "get an office or place from home where you can work at least some of the time". Personally I have also bought a bunch of timers; set it to one hour, disable your connection if you need to, work and focus on ONE task during that hour, take a break and redo the proceedure with the next task. Oh, and never install Wow, Halo or anything like that... :D

well lets put it this way, if you don't know how to smell the opportunity and make the difference between BS and valuable info then you should start looking for a job

BS has value, stupid people and idiots will always buy BS, not only on the internet but in the real life, how many products are out there with great success and 0 actual use ? people are buying it because the mentality is follow the others

on the internet BS is going to take you nowhere just maybe help you buy a coffee but if you really want to make money you'll have to work with your brain

the most valuable commodity is information and an asset has no pre-determined value, the market will decide, buyers

I got myself an office, and it definitely does help. I started getting bored so I went out and picked up a flat screen and PS3 for my office....big mistake! :D

As soon as I installed COD, it instantly became a time drain for me. Unfortunately it took a couple of days of blowing up helicopters and people and stuff to realise what had happened, but now I've put the game in the safe hands of my brother :p

Well, relaxation and clearing your mind is as important as having structures or routines, f.ex I have a keyboard in the office to make some music whenever I need to reboot. Installing cod, counterstrike or whatever is simply a risk I cant afford taking :)

I am really working hard on personal discipline right now and it´s just like going to the gym or whatever. You need dedication and a lot of "just f-cking do it" inside of you to succeed. If you work 100% on your own - do you really have to put in 12-14 hours per day or would 6-8 high efficient ones suffice? Well the latter is of course true but its darn hard when you are working online..
