This is a step by step process for people who are having a hard time finding low competition niche keywords with link to case study and keyword list. With this method, I can guarantee you at least 4-6 low competition keywords with good seo value for every 1000 keywords analysed .The process takes time but it is worth every sec you spend on it .The idea here is to outlay a basic blueprint which will help you plan and develop your own strategy for performing Niche research.

You require Market samurai (MS) in order to analyse keywords. It can be done manually using G keyword tool and SEOBook Firefox plug-in but due to the quantity of data, Market samurai is the best option .If you don?t have it, download a 12 Day trial from their website .If you already installed it and expired ur trial then search and download Rivo uninstaller and uninstall MS with it and scan for residual file after Revouninstall-Delete found files and You are good to go with the new installation.

Prerequisite: Watch the basic MS tutorials on their website for a working knowledge of MS

Method 1

Step1: selecting Market
You need to select a niche market example-Forex trading software, Christmas tree, birthday gifts etc. It?s better to start with selecting a niche market/submarket you are already familiar with. You can also surf online and look for various trending topics or look on Google product search Homepage for Hot selling products.

Step2: Building the Base keyword list
Now you need to build a base keyword list of related keywords in your niche market .The list should contain a min of 2k keywords and you can maximize the number of keywords as per your requirement.

Ways to build your list-

1. Search for the base keyword in G keyword tool and look for keywords with High searches and High CPC .then you need to dig down for each keyword and start saving all the results in csv file
2. Using Scrape box G suggest scraper and other keyword tools : you can use Scrape Box keyword scarper to expand your list .You can also search the forum for various keyword tools with the capability to scrape major websites for keywords. You need to save as much keywords you can for the required market.
3. Scraping keywords from competitor website

Combining all the data:
after a number of keyword research sessions at Google keyword tool and using other tools, you will end up with a lot of duplicate keywords and all the keywords are in separated files .Now you need to create a new Excel sheet and name it as ?Master database-Keyword Name ?.add all the keywords in a single column of the sheet. Select the column with all the keywords (clicking on ?A? on top of column will select the whole column). Click on ?Data Tab ?on top and look for ?remove duplicates? under ?data tools?.Now you have a base keyword list with unique entries ready for analysis.

Step3: Reviewing the master keyword list

We have a master list, but we need to review the list in order to remove negative keywords and useless phrases from the list .We will use MS for this as it has some very nice functionality for reviewing and editing your list.

MS features used:

1. We can click on any word in the keyword list and click on respective ?Tick? or ?cross? sign in front of them to send them to positive or negative keyword list.[refer MS tutorials on their website for more info]
2. We can filter keywords on basis of the word length by changing the value phrase length option on top .We will be focusing on 1 and 2 words keywords and review them to filter out brand names, misspelling, useless keywords and not related words. One and two word keywords are in low in quantity as compared to three or more words keywords, that?s why we can easily go through then to find out potential negative keywords .simply select same value like 1 for both to get list of keywords with only one word in it

Now you need to create a new project at MS .Import all the keywords in the project using the add keywords under keyword research and use the above two feature to review and filter out your keyword list.
Export the list as the ?Final reviewed keyword list with no duplicates?

Step4: Keyword Analysis

Things to remember:

1. Always create a separate project for every 3k keywords because MS will most likely hangs up or freeze if there is a lot of data in a single project.
2. Always create a set of 500 keywords for analysis .by this I meant that you can create a project and then click on new keyword name it as?1-500? and copy 500 keywords from the excel sheet and analyse them, then again add new keyword and name it as ?501-1000? and so on .This way you will be placing less load on G keyword tool and there will be a very less chances of getting gibberish or incomplete data.
3. I personally believe that in order to simplify the process of SEO, we need to classify the keywords in different categories depending upon the complexity, Value and work needed for the keywords. I have a habit of categorising my keywords into classes as class A, Class B, Class C and Class Zero

You need to create Filters for each class in MS to simplify and speed up the process. I have explained all the classes below and also added a table below which shows the Market samurai Keyword Analysis setting for each class.

Class A Keywords:
These are the primary keyword which you will be targeting.
800+ exact searches
Seo competition: 50000
Phrase to broad ratio > 20%
High SEO Value and CPC ? (depending on your needs)

Class B keywords: These are the supporting secondary keywords for the main keyword
200-800 exact searches
Seo competition: 25000
Phrase to broad ratio > 20%
High SEO Value and CPC-(depending on your needs)

Class C keywords: These are the keywords with good CPC but very low search volume. Best for Blasting to 2nd and 3rd tier back links.
Exact searches less than 200
Seo competition: 15000
PBR ratio >15%
High CPC value-(depending on your needs)

Zero CPC: These are the niche related keywords with good search volume but 0 CPC, they always have very low competition and helps bring in Niche Related Traffic.
Exact match searches 300+
SEO competition: 15000
PBR Ratio >15%

If you are comfortable competing for high competition keywords, you can simply modify the specs for each class as per your needs eg: increasing SEOC from 50k to 200k for class A.

Now, Create a new excel sheet and name first four columns as Class A, B, C, Zero respectively. Now From every set of 500 keywords analysed, you need to filter out keywords for every class using the Pre Created filters with the above specs and save each keyword to the respective column depending on the class they belong. So if you found three class A keywords, two Class b keywords and five class C keywords from a single 500 keywords set, you need to copy that to the excel sheet in their respective column .You will keep on doing this until all the 500 keyword sets are done and you have a master list of keywords categorised as class A, b, c and zero.

Step5: Analysing First Page Competition for keywords

Now you will end up with an average of 100-150 keywords in all the classes combined after complete run to the master list. You now need to check each keyword for first page competition .you can create a new project and import all the keywords in it, and then you can start checking each keyword for first page seo competition.

Seo competition is analysed on following factors ?Domain Age, Total Number of Indexed pages, Domain Links, Unique Referring domains, Page Links, EDU GOV links, on page seo factors. The First Page SEO Competition for each keyword is checked using the following specs in Market samurai.

On page competition : 4+ spots with zero or low On page seo .This is one of the most important thing which a number of SERP results are missing for their ranking pages .You need to create a 100% seo optimised page for the keyword for best seo results .You can see results with zero backlinks and low index pages and PR, but ranking on First page just because of the 100% On Page seo .

Back links to page : at least 4+ spots on first page with very low back links to page with low URL PR -The region will turn green if the links are acceptable .Anything from 0-400 are acceptable in my opinion , you can look for even lower back link keywords

Edu Gov links: 4+ spots with no Edu/Gov Links -90% of time the page are not having those edu/gov links, even one indexed link will help in this case to rank for the keyword

Page Rank: 4+ spots with PR lower than 2

Yahoo/Dmoz Listing: 4+ spots with no Listing
We have discarded the following three factors from our research and placed below required explanation for discarding them

Domain Age: If you have an aged domain, you have an advantage over other competitors .An aged domain can rank a lot easier and quickly as compared to newly registered domain and are easily accepted by Google. You can look in Go daddy auctions for aged domains.

Index count: I have personally tested many niches where the index count for ranking competitor domains is very high but this factor can be easily overcome if u can bypass the competitor in other factors like Back links, On page seo and Edu links .It?s actually The number of pages indexed in Google for the ranking site, the lower the number the better the keyword .I have discarded this because most of the micro sites have very low indexed page and still they rank very well on first page.

Domain Back links: Most of the sites having large number of domain back links, either have very low back links to the page or they are missing important seo factors like on page seo and Edu /.GOV links .so, if you have an aged domain which is On Page optimised with diversified back links pointing to the page with your Keyword as anchor and some magic of EDU/GOV, you will for sure rank above your competitor with lots of back links to domain.

Step6: Selecting Final Keywords
Now you can create a final list of all the keywords with Low first page competition and review them for further planning and targeting

In the base category of Dyspraxia-Apraxia, I found a link for speech therapy and therapist; I did a simple G keyword tool search, only one run and found some keywords with Low off page stats but authority sites and edu domains on First Page.

After analysing 5-7 keywords i found ?speech therapy games? it has an average CPC of 1.71 with 880 global searches and 590 local US searches and very low First Page Competition , can be easily reached to the top by only optimising the page 100% for H1, title , url and description and getting some 200-500 backlinks .

Review:

Scopezero was kind enough to send me some branded keywords. This was a product based keyword. I usually don't go for them but I have been able to see that this niche can be very profitable. Scopezero had mentioned that the keywords would be medium competition and that was true. All of the EMDs were taken and the #1 spot was held by the manufacturer company but not too well optimized.

All of the other spots were taken by the EMDs however their content was poor. Most of it was illegible and according to Scopezero's analysis could be displaced by a quality content website with a diverse link profile. Most of the competition uses Adsense while onle one website used Amazon in conjuction with Adsense. This website, however, did not use the keyword specific Amazon products for sale on its website and is therefore losing money.

He also provided me with the Market Samurai's competition analysis and gave me an approximate time frame and link-building model to rank this niche.

I agree with that and do see the potential in it and even with a #2 position, I am confident of a potential of $XX within the next 3-4 months.

+rep & Thanks given

Hats off to Scopezero, for getting back to me.

I thought he'd done well finding me a nice low competition keyword, but there was a seond keyword supplied and the other came with zero competition

It gets better; in my PM were some nice useful pointers how to get this keyword ranked, which was much appreciated.

It gets even better !! The EMDs I went to look were not available as the .com, but the main keyword was available as a .com in the plural form.
So intead of being able to get <example> widgetreview.com , instead I was able to grab widgetreviews.com

Thanks Scopezero for a nice surprise in my inbox, I will be back in touch in future.

The write up is an awesome contribution too and would make an ideal sticky !
