Guys doing audits for some new client websites, i found out that they have backlinks built to their, subdomains that redirect to the domain in this form for the most part

blog post link or link in forum thread, using anchors, link to for example doll.domain.com that has 301 permanent redirect to domain.com/doll or domain.com/high-doll, or some otehr variation of doll

Is a system that has value in your opinion?

This specific linking scheme will not add any kind of benefit.

He better point the final urls directly.

well only one part of the site is ranking, ok, but for the huge amount of content that get added to it, Highlights football matches, so that page where they use the same strategy, rank the rest not at all.
Was more in the technicality, like if doing this you filter somehow the spamming factor :), I am not surprised if the SEO does to hide them from the actual owner of the site, and tell them different stories, anyway they sacked him and took me so or well

anyway please read this i made a mistake in my post,:

The linking is like this basically the same but are not blog post, but blog coments and forum spam,

blog comment link or link in forum thread(SPAM basically), using anchors link to for example doll.domain.com that has 301 permanent redirect to domain.com/doll or domain.com/high-doll, or some other variation of doll

Is a system that has value in your opinion? What the reasoning behind it? filtering the spam?

Actually never thought to check subdomains, never seen how to do it, on majestic, semrush and moz, may be my fault, but used another one just to try it, and give you the list of the subdomain straightaway. so I found out

but thinking about it may be they do, so if they get some google penalty, removing the subdomain all together should remove the penalty

ok I found out, I got hired as SEO manager for their websites, after a meeting today, and basically the site was created on subdomains, structure, look like was normal here in this country, then they changed to domain/folder structure, and 301 the subdomain to the new url, only for this, not an unusual SEO strategy
