Just to let you know that I have been using this strategy for a while now (for those who dont know what Im talking about here, search on BHW).

When using this SEO strategy, you CANNOT control the number of backlinks you will get. In the last week, I went from 700 BLs to 1800++ and all these BLs are from 2/3 blogs only.

Guess what, Google dont like that at all. Just got penalized alot even if all of my comments were related/no spam!

    Beware!

Have you noticed with this technique that once you gain some backlinks, your ranking in the SERPs begins to drop? I have been monitoring and noticed that my rankings are slowly climbing back up, but you're right -- you can't control how many backlinks you get from this method.

I'm also led to believe that where you fall in rankings, the sites you have been hitting up using this method are gaining placement from your keywords (anchor text) since they had more authority to begin with. What do you think about that? True/false in your opinion?

I had to learn that the hard way unfortunately. You cannot control how many back links you will get and thus a ban from google is immanent. sahd87 is true in his statement.

I have read on this forum mainly in the xrumor threads that you really do not get banned for having backlinks. You may get sand boxed for awhile, but your site should come out stronger after a 30 -90 day period.

Is this still true with this WP backlink method or is this only true for forum backlinks?

I understand 30-90 days can seem like a lifetime for many here, but if you know that it might happen it seems to be a reasonable period of time to work with and plan for.

Is it just too long when performing black hat as you do not want anything lasting too long and want in and out fast?

Just trying to understand sorry if this is just too noob of a question.

Guys, that's because the backlinks are sitewide and you build them too quickly.

    More money is indeed better.

But hey, is there any way to get your links removed from the "Top Commenters" section without emailing the site admin?

so I assume the best way is this

Only use this technique on a small blog, not a huge blog with hundreds of pages. Maybe with just one blog is your site is new or less than a certain age.

If your site has been around awhile, then I guess it is ok.

The best bet is maybe work one small blog that has top comment plugin, then in a few months another blog

    am I right.

Think it's the luck of the draw...the general rules is that the big G doesn't like backlink surges....If your site get's alot of visits and has good content then could be argued with G (yes by contacting them)....other wise you can also say that someone maliciously set you up and that you have no idea what went on (so put me back on the serps).

think about it, posting 5-10 comments is 5 minutes work and if google bans you or deindex you for that, you practically can take out any competition that you don't like. then again no one knows exactly why google penalize you so what works for me i will continue doing it.

The same thing happened to me. Wait a few weeks and maybe you too will get hurts by Mr. G. Last month, I was gettings 100 BLs / week using this technique but then suddenlty, BAM, 100 BLs / DAY. It gets out of control after a few weeks.

Keep us updated about your site to see if you too will get penalised.

Good idea there. I might try this.

I have also read that Google does not look kindly on a surge of a large number of backlinks coming from the same IP, and even a gradual buildup of backlinks from the same IP tends to downgraded unless the source is a large social community like Ning, YouTube, Facebook, etc.

Even things like forum signatures should be used with caution if you are posting a whole lot on one forum. In this case, I am not 100% certain, but you will probably have to choose what you prefer, traffic from the forum or from SERP ranking.

Exactly right, this is Google's response just the other day as a follow up to their "Comment Spam" blog post:

    Bold emphasis = Mine.

Dropping your link in the Top Commenters didn't do it, more than likely it was a combination of 'undesirable' factors that tipped the scales.

You can't really say A caused B with another hundred variables involved. You need to do controlled tests, and the outcome needs to be predictable and repeatable to claim A = B and my tests aren't showing the same results as yours.

@SweetFunny: Well thats a good news. That means that maybe I wasnt penalize because of this.

Can someone tell me if Google can penalize you for :

    1. Having the same <HEAD> section on every pages of your website. (Same meta tags + Same page title)

    2. Having duplicate contents that you copied/pasted from another website.

Can Google penalize you drastically for doing one of these things?
